Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 280

“Bachelor, about what I brought up last time...” Lenora murmured. “Have you and Shirley talked it over? I'm not trying to rush you, but that house is getting a lot of offers. The realtor keeps calling me, so... I already put down the deposit.”

Bachelor stared at her in surprise. “You already put money down? Didn't I tell you Shirley has the final say on this? She might not agree... Besides, Nash hasn't even graduated yet. Isn't it a bit early to buy him a house?”

Lenora didn't dare admit that she was actually the one desperate to move out. She kicked Patton lightly under the coffee table. Patton muttered, “Why are you kicking me? It's not like I can force Shirley to lend us the cash.”

Lenora flushed red with frustration.

Tanya finally spoke up, wanting to settle the matter. “Bachelor, you're a man, the head of the house. How can you not have a say? You should be in charge of the finances. I've thought about it too—buying a house is a good thing. They should do it! Patton and Lenora don't make as much as you two, so they can barely cover the mortgage. Just lend them the down payment to secure the place.”

Ramsey's voice was low and stern. “It's not for an outsider. Nash is the only boy in our family, so buying him a house is inevitable. You cover the down payment, and Patton and Lenora will pay the mortgage. When Nash graduates and makes something of himself, he'll pay you back. You won't lose out.”

Bachelor kept his head down and remained silent. It wasn't just that he didn't want to lend the money; he genuinely didn't know where Shirley kept their savings. But even if he did, he didn't want to lend them that much.

That down payment would completely wipe out their life savings.

They were working-class people on a fixed salary. In his younger years, he took on side projects doing construction estimates, and Shirley tutored whenever she had free time. Building their nest egg hadn't been easy.

And ever since Bonnie's incident three years ago, he had vaguely realized just how absurdly biased his family was against his daughter.

She hadn't received a single word of concern. In the three years since she had left home in a fit of rebellion, not a single person in this massive family had asked how Bonnie was doing out there.

Come to think of it, the complaint Shirley muttered every single day was absolutely right.

“Looking across all of Cabinda, Candie is the best out of all the kids. She has so many wonderful qualities, but your parents are too blind to see them. The only time they ever praised Candie was when they said she was smart enough to land a good boyfriend, reminding her not to forget them when she joined The Lane Family...”

It was brutally ironic. He couldn't blame Shirley and Bonnie for despising this family for decades.

Still, Bachelor couldn't bring himself to say anything too harsh. He just kept his head down and explained, “We don't have enough for a down payment that big. How about this? I'll talk to Shirley and see if we can scrape together fifty grand in cash.”

Phrasing it like that meant he was refusing to cover the full amount. Lenora was visibly disappointed. The truth was, she hadn't actually paid any deposit; she was just testing the waters. But the result was exactly as she had feared. Now that the prodigal daughter had returned, they couldn't squeeze any more cash out of them.
