Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 30

Felton was the type of guy who loved sharing the little things in his life. His lunch, the basketball score, clouds that looked like face shapes, a lazy cat tucked into a corner of the street. He’d take a picture, post in the chat, always finding something worth mentioning.

After their blind date, he and Bonnie grabbed dinner a couple of times. But since the Meadows School project started shifting, Bonnie barely had a free minute. Most days they just sent each other messages. Felton would text her about whatever he saw or did, and Bonnie replied whenever she found a moment.

That morning at work, a bright notification flickered in the corner of her screen. Bonnie shifted her mouse off the school’s floor plan and over to WeChat. Helen’s profile popped up.

"Wanna go to the bathroom?"

Bonnie wrote back, "Coming."

They were on different teams. Bonnie’s group handled public building projects, while Helen did residential. If anyone was overloaded, it was Helen—their deadlines turned people into zombies, everyone stressed about finishing on time and getting paid.

Bonnie tossed her shawl over her chair and met Helen in the hall. Helen slipped her arm through Bonnie’s and murmured, "We finally got the construction drawings sent over. I’m wiped out."

Bonnie asked, "Do you have any more projects coming up soon? If not, maybe you should ask for a day off?"

Helen let out a little laugh. "Time off? That’s a fantasy my boss keeps dangling. Plus I still have to finish up a facade control manual, but it’s not urgent so at least I can chill for a couple days."

Then she nudged Bonnie and asked, "I haven’t had time to ask—how’s it going with Felton? He seems like an alright guy."

Bonnie grinned and nodded. "He’s nice. We’re supposed to get dinner tonight actually. Want to join us?"

Helen giggled. "Nope. Ned and I are playing a murder mystery tonight. You focus on your date, try to get a better read on Felton. Don’t feel like you have to keep seeing him just because I introduced you. I just made the connection. Whether you like each other is totally your thing."

Bonnie smiled, understanding. "Don’t worry. I’ll think about it for real."
