She didn't give Lawrence a definitive answer right away, offering only four simple words.
"Depends on your behavior."
She still had a lot on her plate, and marriage simply wasn't on her immediate radar.
In the blink of an eye, the harsh winter faded. By March, the post-disaster reconstruction projects in Highvale officially broke ground. While a portion of the Kingswood University Working Group stayed behind to oversee operations, the core architectural designers like Bonnie gradually packed up to return to Oasinia.
Almost six months had passed—sometimes dragging by agonizingly slow, other times vanishing in an instant. She had grown accustomed to the rugged lifestyle and the rhythm of their long-distance relationship, with him flying out to see her whenever he could.
Now that it was time to leave, she found herself oddly reluctant to say goodbye to the place.
But no matter how attached she had grown, it was time to go home.
The day she landed, Lawrence was waiting for her at the arrivals terminal. To her absolute shock, he had brought June along.
June had his braces removed ages ago. He had transformed from a goofy puppy with an underbite into a strikingly majestic adult dog, sitting proudly by his owner with his tongue lolling out.
The second she came into view, June shot to his paws, barking his head off in sheer excitement.
Lawrence gently patted his head, signaling for quiet. June immediately obeyed, silencing his barks, but dug his paws into the floor, straining at the leash in a desperate bid to reach her. Lawrence had to jog to keep up as the dog dragged him straight to Bonnie.
Her face broke into a radiant smile as she launched herself into his arms. It had been an entire month since they last saw each other, and the withdrawal had been agonizing. Cupping her face, he devoured her mouth with such aggressive heat she had to bend backward just to absorb the impact.
June pawed impatiently at her calves. Breaking the kiss, she quickly dropped to a crouch, wrapping her arms around the dog she hadn't seen in half a year, showering him in affectionate pets.
Any lingering melancholy about leaving Highvale vanished entirely the moment she was reunited with her man and her dog.
