"Yes, Princess."
Lawrence worked like a loyal servant, happily feeding Bonnie. They were both starving—over two hours of intense cardio had definitely burned through their energy.
Every dish was wiped completely clean.
They even polished off more than half the cake.
Tasting the sweet, perfectly balanced frosting, Lawrence suddenly felt a pang of guilt. He leaned in, bumping his nose affectionately against her cheek. "Should I throw you a makeup birthday? We didn't even have cake back in Highvale."
Bonnie lazily shook her head. "No need. I was the one who said I didn't want a cake."
In that harsh environment, she simply couldn't bring herself to indulge in a carefree celebration.
"It really doesn't matter," Bonnie said.
Besides, she had received a birthday gift she absolutely adored. She raised her hand, showing it off to Lawrence. "I've been wearing it every single day."
Lawrence understood what she meant and didn't press the issue. After all, they would be together for the rest of their lives. They would celebrate every single one of each other's birthdays from now on.
A deep sense of contentment washed over him, and he couldn't resist leaning in to capture her lips. "Earlier, you complained the ring was scratching you and made me take it off. Otherwise, I'd be wearing mine twenty-four-seven too. Baby, put it back on me later. I'll make sure to be careful tonight."
Bonnie's face instantly burned scarlet. She balled up her fists and started hammering his shoulder and stomach. Lawrence sucked in a sharp breath, quickly grabbing her hands. "You practically clawed me raw, take it easy! If you break me, you'll be the one missing out!"
"Nonsense! I wouldn't miss out on anything!" Bonnie snapped, embarrassed and flustered. "You are not touching me tonight. You can go sleep in June's bed!"
Lawrence shamelessly glued himself to her side. Bonnie dodged him, taking another bite of matcha cake while using her free hand to shove him away. "Go do the dishes! And walk the dog when you're done! Don't think you can slack off just because it's your birthday!"
Lawrence cried out in exaggerated injustice—when had he ever slacked off? Still, he didn't dare upset Bonnie further. He obediently got up and began clearing the chaotic pile of plates from the table.
After cleaning up, he grabbed June's leash and headed out the door, taking the trash with him.
