Hannah’s eyes burned with unshed tears. She pressed her palms gently against her eyelids, trying to ease the ache. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a car turning into the underground garage. She knew that car. It was Abbot’s Mercedes.

Her lips twitched with the barest hint of a smile. She grabbed her phone and dialed Abbot.

He picked up almost immediately.

“Hannah.” His voice was polite, a little stiff.

Hannah didn’t bother with niceties. Her voice was icy. “Where’s Lawrence?”

For a moment, Abbot said nothing, the automated parking system’s voice echoing through his call as he drove in. After a pause, he answered, “Hannah, I just arrived at the company garage. Lawrence might already be upstairs in his office. Can I call you back in a minute?”

Hannah let out a cold laugh. “Abbot, I didn’t know you quit The Lane Group and started working property management at The Observatory...”

Lawrence’s head throbbed painfully from his hangover.

But he was wide awake, every thought sharp and clear.

He slumped on the living room sofa, waiting for Abbot to drop off some fresh clothes. All the while, regret gnawed at him over his reckless behavior the night before.

He’d totally lost his mind. Maybe he’d just been scared.

When he saw Bonnie and Felton walking under the same umbrella, their shoulders practically touching as they entered the complex, something inside him snapped. He couldn’t stop himself from intervening, trying to prevent whatever he thought might happen next.

Instead, he’d only made things worse.

Now Bonnie probably hated him more than ever.

With a heavy sigh, Lawrence sat up. Empty bottles littered the coffee table and were scattered around his feet. He buried his head in his hands, the ache in his heart mixing with the nausea from last night’s drinks, making it impossible to stand.
