Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 476

The second the words left her mouth, Bonnie wanted to take them back. What kind of completely unhinged question was that? She was literally asking a guy who used to ace his math exams to explain functions.

She wanted to bang her head against the wall.

As expected, Lawrence went dead silent for a solid ten seconds before cautiously asking, "Am I supposed to know, or am I not supposed to know?"

Bonnie wished the floorboards would just open up and swallow her. Just as she scrambled to explain herself, Lawrence suddenly sounded enlightened. "Oh, I get it. You're trying to get a head start on Advanced Calculus, aren't you? Don't stress too much. The math for architecture majors isn't that brutal. I can tutor you."

Hearing him give her an easy out, Bonnie let out a massive sigh of relief. "Okay, thank you so much."

As long as he didn't press her on why she brought it up out of nowhere, she would gladly suffer through seven days of calculus tutoring.

Completely buying into the idea that Bonnie was just a hardcore academic, Lawrence's voice softened. "You finally have some time off. You should relax. A few days won't make a difference."

Bonnie offered a vague hum of agreement, incredibly thankful they were only on a voice call. If this had been FaceTime or in person, her face would be so red it might actually combust.

Only the sound of their soft breathing filtered through the speaker. Having just pierced the fragile veil between them, they hadn't quite navigated past the initial awkward phase. Neither knew exactly what to say next.

Eventually, Lawrence took the lead. Mustering up his courage, he offered to tell her a story. Bonnie almost laughed—she wasn't a little kid—but she didn't have the heart to refuse.

Listening to his slightly unpracticed, slightly stiff, but incredibly rich voice, Bonnie rolled over and found a comfortable position.

Slowly, sleep began to pull at her, though she fought it, reluctant to let the moment end. For Bonnie, this was entirely uncharted territory, filling her with a heady mix of anticipation and nerves.

She wished time would slow down so she could hear a few more stories, yet simultaneously wished it would speed up so tomorrow would arrive faster.
