Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 511

Lawrence apologized with bone-deep sincerity, swearing he would never pick a fight over something so trivial ever again. He was so intensely earnest that he actually stopped what he was doing, hovering over her to deliver his apology while looking straight into her eyes. Bonnie stared up at him, entirely bewildered. He felt different today. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but the shift was undeniable. Still acting a little stubborn, she accepted his apology and promised to keep a wide berth from the teaching assistant. Lawrence kissed her hard, swallowing the other man's name. He had already mentally convinced himself to drop it. No one on earth was ever going to take his Candie away from him. This time, their intimacy was tender and unhurried. Afterward, they dressed and headed out to grab lunch. Once they finished eating, they wandered the ancient town until they found Helen sketching. A small crowd of tourists had gathered behind her to admire her work, with a few even offering to buy her pieces. Naturally outgoing, Helen was still completely flustered by the aggressive compliments from the older tourists. Seeing Bonnie and Lawrence, she frantically waved them over. Bonnie sat down next to her while Lawrence gave them space. He found a large, sun-warmed stone to sit on, occasionally lifting his phone to snap pictures of Bonnie. Truthfully, the lingering dread of the nightmare hadn't entirely faded. He felt a bizarre sense of dissociation, a nagging fear whispering in the back of his mind: What if this was the dream? What if the nightmare was reality? What would he do? Plagued by that dark thought, Lawrence couldn't take his eyes off Bonnie all day. His intense, unbroken stare eventually made her face burn with self-consciousness. Helen leaned over, nudging Bonnie with her elbow. "Damn, what did you guys do last night? He's staring at you like a man obsessed." Bonnie flushed a vibrant crimson, shooting Lawrence a desperate glare to tone it down. But Lawrence just smiled that devastating, lovesick smile of his and kept watching her. She gave up. Over the next few days, Bonnie finished her required sketches early. Free from her assignments, she dragged Lawrence all over the ancient town. They made local handicrafts, and Lawrence even crafted a tiny clay dog, turning it into a keychain to hang off his backpack. Everything felt like a picture-perfect vacation, yet Bonnie couldn't shake the feeling that Lawrence was acting strange. He was treating her like she was made of spun glass. If she took five minutes too long in the restroom, he would pace outside, panic bleeding into his voice when he asked if she was okay. She kept asking what was wrong, but he always brushed it off. Her confusion only grew until their final day. They hiked The Emerald Peaks. Getting up the mountain was fine, but by the time they needed to descend, everyone's legs felt like jelly. The entire group unanimously voted to take the cable car down. Since they were at the back of the line, Bonnie and Lawrence ended up in a car by themselves. Instead of looking out at the breathtaking mountain views, Lawrence kept his eyes glued to her. Bonnie rested her head against his broad shoulder, reaching up to pinch his earlobe. "Seriously, what is going on with you? You've been totally out of it. Why do you keep staring at me like I'm going to disappear?" After a few days of constant reassurance, Lawrence's racing heart had finally settled. He knew how to separate the dream from reality now. The girl leaning against his shoulder, smiling so brightly at him, was real. The girl who murmured sweet 'goodnights' to him in bed was real. That was all that mattered. Maybe the nightmare had just been a warning. His voice a low rumble, Lawrence finally told her about the dream. Bonnie listened in stunned silence. She hadn't expected something so heavy. The way he described it sounded terrifyingly vivid, right down to how she had reacted. Bonnie thought about it. If the day ever came where he walked away, she knew she wouldn't be able to stay cool and collected. She wouldn't be able to fall back on her usual stubbornness or throw a tantrum like she did when they argued. She would probably shatter. She would throw away all her pride and beg him to stay. The mere thought of losing him made her chest tight with agony. She couldn't imagine watching Lawrence walk out of her life. But thank God, it was just a dream. The tension broke, and Bonnie let out a sudden laugh. "Are you kidding me? You're such an idiot. If you ever dumped me, I wouldn't beg you to stay. I'd go out and find ten guys hotter than you just to make you miserable." Lawrence chuckled, a low, vibration against her skin. He didn't believe that for a second. Pulling her tightly against his chest, he rested his chin on top of her head, his eyes tracing the sweeping peaks of the mountains. His soul felt completely at peace. It had only been a dream.
