Saturday arrived, and Lawrence prepared to head to the Lane Family estate.
Before leaving, he walked into the study where Bonnie was focused on her freelance work. He leaned down, pressing his lips to her cheek. Bonnie gave him a distracted kiss in return, waving him off and telling him to hurry up.
He had been incredibly clingy the past few days, so hearing he was going home to visit his parents made her secretly thrilled to finally get the apartment to herself.
Lawrence chuckled, cupped her face for one last lingering kiss, and left.
Halfway there, he made a detour to pick someone up.
Nana pulled open the back door of the car with trembling hands, her face deathly pale. Just thinking about the scene she was about to face sent shivers down her spine.
Lawrence glanced at her through the rearview mirror. He recalled the last time he heard about Nana in his previous life—it was the day she was released from prison.
With a criminal record hanging over her head, her life had been ruined, and her family's business had steadily collapsed. He often wondered if she regretted being an accomplice to such cruelty.
Now, he was giving her a chance to turn things around before it was too late. If Nana knew the fate she was originally destined for, she would have thanked him.
Having lived nearly a century in his past life, Lawrence was unfazed by the drama. He didn't speak to her too harshly, offering a calm reassurance instead. "Just tell the truth. It won't affect your family's business."
Nana nodded, still looking sick. "I know. It's just... Hannah is going to be so angry."
Lawrence's expression remained perfectly blank. He didn't bother responding and kept driving.
Nana sat awkwardly in the back, suddenly feeling the temperature in the car drop entirely from the sheer coldness of the man behind the wheel.
A few days ago, Lawrence had tracked her down and demanded she act as a witness. He wanted her to confess in front of the Lane family that Hannah harbored romantic feelings for him, and that Hannah had actively instructed her friend group to bully and instigate drama with Bonnie.
Nana had been absolutely floored. She could barely believe what she was hearing. Lawrence had always been protective and respectful toward Hannah. Even with all the fights he'd had with Bonnie over her, he had never once raised his voice at his adopted sister.
