Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 76

Bachelor was clearly annoyed that Bonnie didn’t offer to go home with them.

“Candie should really know better after all this time. She hasn’t even bothered to call her elders. She’s not as stubborn as she used to be, so it’s time she went back and apologized. Did you forget she made Dad so mad he almost passed out?”

Shirley laughed coldly. “Really? You think it was Candie who made him faint? He was just upset he couldn’t cozy up to the Lane family, that’s all.”

That memory was carved into Shirley’s mind. When everything blew up, Bonnie’s grandfather didn’t ask if Bonnie was okay or if she’d been wronged. He just called her useless and told her to apologize to Lawrence immediately.

Shirley would never forget that.

Bachelor’s voice was tight and sharp. “Can you just stop for once? Everything Dad does is for this family. He’s old, he can think however he wants. Who cares about climbing up the social ladder? If you ask me, all this talk about getting in with other people is just ugly.”

Shirley snorted. “Maybe you don’t care, but your precious little brother and your nephew? And your mother? They’re all just waiting for my daughter to marry into money. Dream on. They’re not getting a single cent.”

Bachelor was shaking with anger. “What kind of talk is that? You’re really going to start drawing lines between us now? When your brother’s factory had problems, wasn’t it my dad who ran around and pulled strings to help? You weren’t complaining about who owed who back then, were you?”

Shirley shut her mouth. The elevator arrived right then. They both got inside, and all the arguing just stopped.

Bonnie stood at the door for a long time before finally closing the security gate.

Ever since she could remember, her parents were always fighting about stuff like this. Sometimes it would get so bad they’d end up smashing things in the house.

But whenever someone brought up how the White family had helped Shirley’s side, Shirley would fall silent.

Bonnie, though, couldn’t stand that kind of pressure. As she grew older, she got more rebellious, even desperate to run away and leave it all behind.

But she never dared.

She couldn’t even bring herself to say “no.”

Then Bonnie met Lawrence.

Looking back, she realized their relationship started because she wanted to rebel. She saw a kind of freedom in Lawrence that she’d never tasted herself.

She had envied him so much. Lawrence came from an even wealthier family, but instead of acting trapped or uptight, he seemed to float through life with no worries, like a breeze you couldn’t ever catch.
