Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 87

Every time her mother spoke, it felt like a knife cutting right through her. The pain was sharp, exposing every bit of shame that Bonnie usually kept hidden deep inside.

She didn’t dare ask. Not about what people thought. Not about what anyone had said about her.

Shirley let out a heavy sigh. “That first year you didn’t come home for New Year’s, your grandma and your aunt said it to my face. They told me, ‘Look at that, girls just don’t measure up. So what if she’s smart? No matter how talented she is, in the end, she’ll ruin herself over a man.’ What could I even say back?”

In all those years since Shirley joined the White family, there were only two times she really felt small. First, when her brother’s factory ran into trouble and she had to ask the Whites for help. Second, because of the mess Bonnie had gotten herself into with love. Both times, Shirley had nothing to say.

Bonnie bit down on her lip until it stung, trying to stop herself from just breaking down and crying.

The car was silent. Too silent. After a while, Shirley sighed again, but neither of them said another word.

When they got home, Bachelor noticed the tension and got anxious. “What happened? Was the news bad?”

Shirley shook her head. “Just chronic gastritis from poor eating habits. She’ll be fine as long as she eats regularly and takes her medicine.”

Bachelor looked relieved. He muttered, “So why does everyone look like it’s the end of the world?”

No one answered. Mother and daughter just drifted off to their own rooms.

It didn’t take long before Bonnie came out with her bag, head down. “Dad, Mom, I have to work overtime tomorrow, so I’ll leave now. I’ll come home again next week.”

Bachelor looked surprised. “You’re leaving already? Your mom hasn’t even started lunch…”

“Let her go,” Shirley called from the bedroom before going straight to the kitchen. She grabbed some bags and containers from the fridge, packed them up, and handed them to Bonnie.

“Eat your meals on time and take your medicine. You’re not a kid anymore. Don’t make us worry about you all the time.”
