Lila's heart ached. "I'm going to find them."
Nicole panicked and grabbed her before she could take another step. After holding everything in for days, her emotions finally broke free.
She pulled Lila into a tight embrace and sobbed uncontrollably.
"Lila, you can't go! If you disappear too, I don't know how I'll go on! It's all my fault, I never should have let Kieran go after Alfredo. This is all my fault!"
Tears streamed down her face, her body trembling violently.
She felt like the Morgans' greatest sinner.
Lila steadied her, helping her sit down, but the weight in her chest only grew heavier. Her eyes lingered on Kieran's last message from two days ago.
What should she do?
For the first time, doubt crept into her mind. Had she made a mistake?
If she had never insisted on investigating her parent's case, would Morgan Group have remained stable?
Would Falkoria's investors have dared to make a move against them?
A suffocating pressure settled over her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Nicole had been shouldering this burden alone, afraid to worry the rest of the family. If Lila hadn't returned when she did, Nicole would have continued enduring this pain in silence.
The thought made Lila's heart ache even more.
That afternoon, after days of silence, Nicole's phone finally rang.
At the same time, Lila's phone chimed.
They rushed to check their screens.
Nicole's call was from Alfredo.
Lila's breath hitched as her gaze landed on a message from Kieran. Emotion surged through her, her nose stinging, tears threatening to fall.
The best news was that they were alive.
"I'm old. Whether I go sooner or later, it's inevitable. Don't worry about me." Frances gave a light cough. "Call the whole family back soon. At my age, I just want to see everyone together again."
Lila's hands stilled for a moment. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something about his words felt off.
Still, she smiled and said, "Alright. Tomorrow afternoon, once everyone's home, we'll have a proper family dinner together."
Hearing that, Frances nodded. He didn't stay long and soon returned to his room to rest.
Lila thought for a moment, then sent messages to Jasmine and Bryce, telling them to come back.
Noah was busy with a tournament, but she reached out to him anyway.
The next afternoon, Lila personally went to the airport to pick up Kieran and Alfredo. Kieran's injured arm made it difficult for him to push Alfredo's wheelchair.
A sharp pang clenched at Lila's chest, but she quickly swallowed it down and hurried toward them.
Noticing her approach, Kieran slowed his steps and slightly opened his good arm, waiting for her to fall into his embrace.
