Too Late for Sorry, Mr. Billionaire (Chasing my Wife Back) novel Chapter 122

AMELIA stood frozen where she was, the glass of water still in her hand and her phone now removed fromher ears, with the front door just clicked open—

Her eyes widened.

“Hazel?” she called out in shock, momentarily forgetting she was still on the phone with Clara.

The girl standing by the door lifted her gaze toward her.

“Yeah, Mom.”

For a second, Amelia just stared.

Hazel stood there with her backpack slung over one shoulder, her uniform slightly creased from travel, strands of her hair falling loosely around her face. She looked tired… but also oddly determined.

Amelia’s heart skipped.

Hazel was supposed to be somewhere else entirely.

“Amelia? Hello? You there?”

Clara’s voice suddenly came through the phone, pulling Amelia back to reality.

Her eyelids flickered and she looked down at the device on her hand.

“Ugh… Clara,” she said quickly, her voice distracted, “please, can I call you back?”

There was a small pause on the other end.

“Alright. Sure,” Clara replied. “I hope you are okay?”

Amelia glanced back at Hazel, who was now stepping further into the living room.

“Definitely. Everything is fine.”

“Okay.”

And before Clara could say anything else, Amelia ended the call.

Her phone dropped to her side as her attention returned fully to the unexpected guest standing in her living room.

For a brief moment, neither of them moved.

Then Amelia closed the distance between them in quick strides.

The shock on her face melted into something warmer, softer.

“Hazel.”

Before the girl could say anything else, Amelia wrapped her arms around her.

Hazel stiffened slightly at first, clearly not expecting the sudden affection.

But only for a moment.

Then her arms slowly came up too, circling her mother.

They held each other tightly.

It had been a while.

Longer than either of them probably wanted to admit.
