Too Late for Sorry, Mr. Billionaire (Chasing my Wife Back) novel Chapter 126

MORNING sunlight streamed through the tall glass windows of Amelia’s office, bathing the room in a warm golden glow. The city below was already alive with movement— cars crawling through traffic, people hurrying along sidewalks, and the distant hum of business beginning for the day.

Inside the office, however, the atmosphere was calm.

Amelia sat behind her large mahogany desk, flipping through a few documents that Ryan had brought earlier. Across from her, Ryan lounged comfortably in the chair, a mug of coffee in his hand.

He watched her for a moment before speaking.

“Well,” he finally said with a grin, “I would say yesterday was a success.”

Amelia lifted her eyes from the papers and leaned back slightly in her chair.

“A success indeed,” she replied calmly.

Ryan chuckled.

“I can’t imagine the look on her face when the police walked in.”

Amelia smirked faintly.

“That woman had the audacity to walk into Adrian’s house and start laying claims on a child she abandoned.”

Ryan shook his head.

“Honestly, boss, I didn’t think she would actually go that far.”

“She underestimated me,” Amelia said simply.

Ryan nodded.

“That she did.”

He took another sip of his coffee and leaned forward slightly.

“But I must admit,” he continued, “the way you handled everything was… impressive.”

Amelia raised an eyebrow.

“Impressive?”

“Yes,” Ryan said with a small laugh. “You baited her perfectly.”

Amelia shrugged lightly.

“Desperate people are predictable.”

Ryan chuckled again.

“When you told me to send that message to provoke her, I knew she would react.”

“She had no choice but to react,” Amelia replied. “Her entire plan depended on that child.”

Ryan nodded slowly.

“And she walked right into the trap.”

“Exactly.”

Ryan shook his head again in amazement.

“And the moment you told me the police had taken her away…” he laughed quietly, “I swear I almost felt bad for her.”

Amelia gave him a look.

“You felt bad?”

Ryan quickly raised his hands.

“Okay, maybe not bad,” he corrected. “But still… that was brutal.”

Amelia picked up a pen and tapped it lightly against the desk.

“She did it to herself.”

Ryan nodded.

“That is true.”

For a moment, they both sat in silence.

Then Ryan raised his coffee mug slightly toward her.

“Well then,” he said. “One enemy down.”

Amelia smiled faintly.

“One man down.”

Ryan chuckled.

“And what a satisfying victory it was.”

Amelia leaned back in her chair again.

“Yes,” she admitted. “It was.”

Ryan studied her for a moment.

“You know,” he said thoughtfully, “you seem very calm for someone who just won a battle yesterday.”

Amelia tilted her head slightly.

“Because it’s only one battle.”

Ryan nodded slowly.

“Ah… I see.”

Her expression hardened slightly.

“There are still other things to deal with.”

Ryan leaned forward with interest.

“Oh yeah.”

Amelia exhaled softly.

“I can’t wait to get on to the next.”

Ryan smirked.

“That’s the Amelia I know.”

But then she paused.

“However…”

Ryan raised an eyebrow.

“However?”

She glanced at the clock on the wall.

“First, I have something else to do.”

Ryan leaned back again.

“And what might that be?”

Amelia smiled faintly.

“I have to meet someone.”

Ryan looked curious.

“Who?”

“My potential sister-in-law.”

Ryan blinked.

“Wait… what?”

Amelia chuckled softly at his

“You know when Valentine called, right?”

Ryan’s eyes widened slightly as realization dawned.

“Yeah.”

“Yes,” Amelia said. “Apparently my dear little brother now has a girlfriend.”

Ryan grinned.

“Well well… look at that.”

“I know,” Amelia said with amusement. “I never thought I would see the day.”

Ryan laughed.

“So he finally grew up.”

“Seems like it.”

Ryan folded his arms thoughtfully.

“And he wants to introduce her to you?”

“Yes.”

Ryan nodded approvingly.

“That’s serious then.”

Amelia smiled slightly.

“It must be.”

Ryan leaned forward again, suddenly curious.

“So when do we meet this mysterious woman?”

Amelia reached for her phone on the desk.

“Well,” she said casually, unlocking it, “we are about to find out.”

Ryan raised his brows.

“You are calling him now?”

“Yes.”

Ryan leaned back, clearly interested in how the conversation would go as Amelia scrolled through her contacts until she found Valentine’s name.

Then she pressed the call button.

The phone rang.

Ryan watched her with a playful grin.

“Let’s see this future sister-in-law of yours,” he murmured.

Amelia placed the phone to her ear, waiting for Valentine to answer.

The gravel in the wide driveway crunched softly beneath Amelia’s tires as she pulled in front of the mansion. The evening sky was beginning to fade into a dusky orange, the last rays of sunlight reflecting off the large windows of the Cole estate.

Amelia didn’t bother stepping out of the car. Instead, she leaned forward and pressed the horn twice.

The sound echoed through the quiet compound.

Inside the house, there was a brief flurry of movement, and within moments the front door burst open.

The twins came running out first, their backpacks bouncing behind them.
