THE very next morning, Vivian was already up, having gone through her usual routine. By the time she came down, Adrian was seated at the dining table, laptop open, his fingers moving swiftly over the keys.
“Babes, aren’t you still ready to leave?” she asked, sliding into the room with a faint smile.
He looked up at her, and paused. His eyes softened, scanning her from head to toe.
“You look so stunning. Where are you off to?”
Vivian blinked in surprise.
“Wait… what?”
“What?” he asked, still half-confused.
“Oh my!” She placed her hands on her hips dramatically. “Don’t tell me you have forgotten already?”
“Forgotten what?” He raised a brow, clearly puzzled.
“My condition yesterday.” Her voice dropped a little, reminding him. “We need to go to the hospital for a check- up. You know this.”
Recognition flickered across his face, and then, to her surprise, he chuckled lightly.
“Oh, that? Don’t worry about it. I already called the doctor, she is on her way here.”
Vivian’s jaw dropped slightly, her hand flying to her chest.
“Wait… what? You did?”
He nodded, leaning back in his chair with that confident smirk of his.
“Of course. I couldn’t let you go through that without proper care. You are my responsibility, Vivian.”
For a second, she just stared at him, her lips parting in disbelief. Then a smile slowly stretched across her face.
“Aren’t you just the best husband ever?” she teased, chuckling softly.
“Husband, huh?” He tilted his head, amused. “You are getting used to calling me that already.”
“And why shouldn’t I?” she retorted playfully, brushing her hand over her small bump. “You have earned it. Besides, we are getting married soon, so what is the difference huh?”
Adrian closed his laptop, giving her his full attention now.
“Don’t worry, love. You and the baby are safe with me.”
Her heart swelled at his words. All these moments… all his actions… assured her more than anything else: Adrian truly loved her.

Mrs. Harlow and Amelia sat in the living room, the silence between them thick. Amelia’s hand trembled slightly as she stared down at the test strip. Two bold red lines stared back at her, unrelenting.
Mrs. Harlow finally broke the silence, her voice low but steady.

“So… it is positive.”
Amelia swallowed hard, her eyes still fixed on the strip.
“Yes.”
Mrs. Harlow leaned forward, watching her daughter carefully.
“Amelia, are you going to let Adrian know?”
Amelia’s head snapped up, her eyes sharp with pain and defiance.
“No. Never.”
Her mother frowned.
“Never? Why would you even say that? He has a right to know.”
Tears welled in Amelia’s eyes, but she shook her head furiously.
“He lost that right the moment he chose that woman. The moment he walked out of this marriage and made me feel like nothing.”
Mrs. Harlow sighed deeply, folding her arms.
“Amelia, listen to me. You can’t carry this burden alone. Hiding a child is no small thing.”
Amelia gripped the strip tighter, her voice breaking.
