MORNING sun spilled through the large glass windows of Satin and Sage, casting warm light across the boutique’s polished floors and elegantly arranged racks. Amelia paused at the threshold, taking a deep breath as she adjusted her blazer. It was her first day back after three months of maternity leave, and although she had stayed active in managing the businesses from home, stepping back into the public space felt entirely different.
Hazel had insisted on accompanying her, carrying her school bag and chattering excitedly about how cool it would be to see Mommy at work. The twins, of course, remained safely under the watchful eye of Beth and Ryan.
“Are you ready, Mom?” Hazel asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
Amelia smiled down at her daughter.
“As ready as I will ever be, Hazel. Let’s go make today count.’
They entered the boutique together, and the familiar scent of freshly polished wood, perfumes, and luxury fabrics greeted Amelia. Satin and Sage had grown under her careful attention while she was away; the boutique now carried more high-end brands, and the layout had been updated to accommodate a smoother flow for customers.
“Good morning, ma’am!” a sales representative greeted brightly as she noticed Amelia’s entrance.
“Good morning,” Amelia replied, a soft but confident smile on her face. She straightened her posture, feeling the energy of stepping back into her professional role. It had been comforting to manage her businesses from home, but this, being here, interacting with the staff, seeing the boutique thrive in person- reminded her why she loved what she did.
Ryan was already at her side, tablet in hand, reviewing the day’s schedule.
“All set for the morning meetings, ma’am. I have lined up the suppliers, confirmed the deliveries, and the marketing team is ready with the latest promotional campaigns,” he said calmly.
“Perfect, Ryan. Let’s make sure everything runs smoothly,” she replied, tapping on the edge of her tablet. She had spent the past weeks preparing for this day mentally, and while a flutter of nerves lingered, she pushed it aside. She was Amelia Cole- impeccable, capable, and now, a mother of twins as well.

As she walked past the racks, greeting staff and checking on displays, Hazel followed, fascinated by the boutique’s layout.
“Mom, look! This section is so pretty now! Did you do this?” she asked, eyes wide.
“I did,” Amelia said, crouching slightly to Hazel’s height. “We worked hard to make it better for our customers. But remember, the boutique is for people who want quality. Everything here is carefully chosen.”
Hazel nodded, still wide-eyed as she wandered to inspect a mannequin’s outfit.
Just then, Rex walked up to them, his face full of smiles.
“Welcome back to work, Mrs. Cole,” he said. “Good morning, Ryan,” he added.
Ryan smiled, nodding a reply.
“Good morning to you too.”
Amelia turned to him.
“Oh! Rex. Thank you,” she smiled.

He chuckled.
“You know, I didn’t think you were that serious when you said you would be back by today. It was so fast,” he said.
She smiled.
“Well, I did. How is today going? I have seen what you did here, it is amazing.”
He laughed.
“Thank you Mrs. Cole.”
“Yeah. You can run along, I will meet you later at your office.”
“Okay, thank you. And welcome back, once again,” he laughed and walked away.
Amelia smiled, her heart swelling. She looked around and saw Hazel still inspecting the mannequins, she smiled. Seeing her children taking interest in her work made her feel at ease. Returning to work wasn’t just about her, it was about showing Hazel and the twins the value of perseverance and passion.
By mid-morning, Amelia had settled into her office, the quiet hum of the boutique acting as a soothing backdrop. Ryan sat across from her, meticulously going through the day’s emails, forwarding important ones, and highlighting tasks that required her attention. Amelia leaned back in her chair, glancing at the tablet in front of her and reviewing the latest figures from Satin and Sage, Ames Roses, and the Palm Tree Resort.
“Ryan, have the orders from the resort been confirmed?” she asked, tapping her pen against the table.
“They have, ma’am. Everything is scheduled for delivery, and the staff is aware of the weekend bookings,” he replied efficiently.
“Good. And the marketing campaign for Ames Roses?” she inquired, eyes scanning over projected social media engagement and email blasts.
Ryan nodded.
“It is ready. We can launch after your approval.”
Amelia gave a professional nod.
Suddenly, Ryan’s eyes widened, as he stared at the screen of the tablet in his hands.
“Um, ma’am?” He called, still looking at the screen.
Amelia looked at him, sensing alert.
“Yes, Ryan. What is it?” She asked.
“I’m just seeing this, I’m so so sorry ma’am, ugh-”
“What is it?” Amelia interrupted, impatient.
He glanced at her.
“This email dropped since yesterday, by 6pm, yesterday. You know we had applied for collaborations with some company for partnership and stuffs?-” he was looking at her now.
She nodded.
“Yes, yes. Is that it?”

“Yeah, and apparently there will be a meeting in three weeks time in effect to this. You should be in attendance.”
Amelia sighed, feeling a mixture of relief and excitement.
“I thought it was something more. Well, okay. Nice.”
“Nice? Is that an acknowledgement, ma’am?”
“Of course. I have to be there. I initiated this.”
He laughed shortly.
“Oh yes. Yes. So should I prepare your presentation?”
She nodded.
“Go on.”
He nodded.

Amelia sank back into her seat, sighing deeply. The past months had been a blur of feedings, diapers, and coordinating home life. But now, being back in the center of her professional world felt empowering.
“Thank you for keeping everything together while I was away, Ryan. I couldn’t have done this without you,” she said, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Ryan inclined his head respectfully.
“Jus “Just doing my job, ma’am. And ensuring the twins and Hazel are cared for while you focus on your work.”
Just then, Hazel appeared at the doorway, looking up at her mother.
“Mom, can we go check on the twins now? I want to see them before school.”
Amelia nodded.
