Mrs. Hart really didn't want Liliana to go see Isabella.
The main issue was that Liliana was so far along in her pregnancy, with only a month left until her due date. Mrs. Har was genuinely terrified that something might go wrong.
As Mrs. Hart helped Liliana into her down jacket, she couldn't stop herself from nagging.
"Liliana, honey, why don't we just skip this whole ordeal?"
"If you really have something to say to that woman, I can pass on the message for you. Or how about you wait until after the baby is born? We can go then..."
Liliana cut her off, her voice calm. "Mom."
"You don't need to persuade me. I know what I'm doing."
Mrs. Hart fell silent.
She felt a wave of helplessness and a headache coming on.
Liliana had been spoiled by everyone around her since she was a child, which had made her incredibly stubborn.
Once she made up her mind about something, you couldn't get her to change it even if you sent a herd of wild horses.
Mrs. Hart knew further argument was pointless, so she turned to Gabriel Hart, who was standing quietly nearby, and instructed him.
"Gabriel, you'll go with your mother and me. Remember to watch your sister closely and take good care of her."
Gabriel's sharp, cool eyes darkened slightly. "I know," he said flatly.
"Mom, you don't need to remind me of something so obvious. I'm aware of my responsibilities."
Mrs. Hart was speechless.
She rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Great. Both of her children were so sure of themselves, and both were as stubborn as mules!
Why did she give birth to two stubborn donkeys? Each one more bullheaded than the last!
Isabella, for her part, remained completely silent. No matter how the police questioned her, she refused to say a single word.
In the car.
Gabriel explained the current situation to Liliana as he drove.
"The evidence Linton provided is rock-solid. I don't know what strings he pulled or who he called in a favor from, but he managed to find transaction records between Isabella and the Nightfall brothers."
With those records, even if the brothers maintained their lies and Isabella feigned muteness, it was enough to secure a conviction.
The trial was now a certainty. With pressure from both the Grayson family and Linton, the date had been moved up to before the new year.
Gabriel kept his eyes on the road, his tone cool.
"According to the lawyers, Isabella and the Nightfall brothers are facing multiple charges. As the primary culprits, the brothers will likely receive the death penalty, to be carried out after the new year at the latest."
"As for Isabella... the situation is complicated. She wasn't truly the mastermind but was manipulated. However, the severity of her involvement and her refusal to cooperate mean she's expected to get a life sentence."
