Aria's POV
I stared at Summer's concerned face as I approached her.
"Aria, are you okay?" she asked, her eyes scanning my expression for any signs of distress.
Her concern touched me. "I'm fine," I said with a smile, shaking my head. "Just heard a rather amusing joke back there."
"A joke? What kind of joke?" Summer tilted her head curiously.
I glanced back at the Duncan women still sitting at their table. "That was the Duncan heiress and the chairman's wife."
Summer looked confused. "What did they want with you?"
"Oh, just warning me to stay away from their precious Owen Duncan."
"WHAT?!" Summer's eyes widened dramatically, her jaw practically hitting the floor. "Are they insane? They're seriously accusing you? No way, I'm going over there to give them a piece of my mind!"
I couldn't help but laugh as she actually rolled up her sleeves, ready for battle. I quickly grabbed her arm. "Stop! I already put them in their place. They're embarrassed enough."
"No, Aria, you're too nice when you confront people!" Summer protested, trying to pull away. "This is an insult to your character! I can't let this slide!"
Her fierce loyalty made me laugh harder. "We're here for business, remember? Let's not waste time on people who don't matter."
Summer reluctantly regained her composure but still looked at me sympathetically. "But it makes me so angry!"
"Don't be angry," I soothed.
The whole situation was ridiculous. I'd barely interacted with Owen Duncan—we'd met a few times and added each other on social media, but our chat history was practically nonexistent. How on earth did the Duncan family convince themselves that I would be pursuing some playboy?
Did they not realize how absurd they sounded?
"Let's go somewhere else," I suggested. This place wasn't suitable for our business discussion anymore.
As we left, Summer couldn't resist shooting a fierce glare at the Duncan women. Mrs. Duncan pretended to sip her wine casually, though I could tell she was mortified. Vivian, however, glared right back.
"Vivian!" Mrs. Duncan's sharp voice cut through the tension.
Vivian finally looked away.
---
Summer and I found a nearby café, but she continued ranting about the Duncan women the entire way. Her outrage actually helped dissolve my own irritation. These things happen—and Mrs. Duncan, if she had any dignity, would be embarrassed enough after learning I was married.
"Alright, Summer, let's focus on business now," I said after we sat down.
Summer took a sip of water and nodded. "I was about to ask you something important before we got interrupted."
I smiled encouragingly. "Go ahead."
"When are you and Mr. Carter planning to have children?"
I felt my cheeks warm instantly.
"Don't misunderstand!" Summer quickly added. "I'm asking because I need to plan your professional schedule for the next three years. If you're planning on having children soon, I obviously can't book too many performances."
