Annabelle snapped her fingers with a smirk and said, "Let them go after each other's throats. That's more than fair."
Sophia stared at the blue liquid in the test tube, her gaze crystal clear.
She said, "| couldn't believe how easily their love just fell apart.”
Annabelle watched her closely, worried Sophia might still feel upset.
But Sophia just looked thoughtful, with nothing but a hint of nostalgia in her eyes.
"Sophie, have you really stopped loving Lucas?" Annabelle asked gently.
Sophia placed the test tube into the machine, replying, "Back in Ginkgo Town, when | realized he wasn't the one who saved me seven years ago, that's when | truly figured out how | felt."
For the past three years, everything she gave to Lucas was because, in her heart, she believed she owed him for saving her life seven years ago.
If not for that, she never would have loved him so wholeheartedly.
Annabelle's concern showed. She said, "With Lucas and Emily tearing each other apart like this, I'm worried he might want to go back to you again."
“Trust me, even if he and Emily end things, there'll always be someone else to take her spot. Lucas was never really the type to stick with just one girl," Sophia replied.
She thought, ‘If he were truly devoted, he would've stayed single the entire three years Emily was overseas.
‘After all, Emily was just overseas, not dead.
‘But he slept with me while still completely hung up on Emily—that's just a total contradiction:
Sophia added, "Honestly, Lucas only cares about himself. I'd love to see someone drive him absolutely wild, only for him to never win her over.
"If someone like that showed up, divorcing him would get way easier."
Sophia thought, ‘There are only 28 days left. If Lucas actually falls head over heels for someone else, he'll dump me in a heartbeat. [am certain of that.’
Annabelle propped her chin on her hand and said, "Enough about him.
There's a business dinner tonight. Let's go together."
Sophia sighed and said, "I just want to be in the lab working tonight.
Not really feeling it.”
Almost without thinking, he reached out, wanting nothing more than to pull her into his arms.
But in the blink of an eye, he was no longer the groom standing on stage—he'd become just another nameless guest, watching from below.
And now, filling the spot he'd lost, was Richard up on the stage.
Richard looked sharp in a designer suit and burgundy bow tie, his hand wrapped confidently around Sophia's waist. Everyone started cheering, "Kiss! Kiss!"
Lucas could only stand by as Sophia, cheeks flushed, shyly burrowed herself into Richard's embrace.
Then Richard lifted her chin with that gentle touch, and right in front of Lucas, the two shared a kiss so deep it felt like they couldn't bear to let each other go.
“Shut up! Sophia's my wife! Richard, get your hands off her!" Lucas yelled.
The shout snapped Lucas awake. He bolted upright in bed, his heart racing.
His chest was flooded with fury, so much that he felt like he could burst.
Lucas fumed inwardly, ‘Richard, even in my dreams, you won't stop chasing after Sophia? Damn it, you just don't ever let up, do you?’
