Emily called out from behind, "Lucas, where are you going? Aren't you going to help me move the tent?"
"I spotted someone I know, so I'm gonna say hi. You figure it out yourself," Lucas said, not even turning his head.
He walked away without looking back, leaving Emily fuming at his retreating form, stomping her foot in frustration.
She eyed the burly driver and bossed him around, "Move that tent and the cooking gear over there for me—I'll give you 300 dollars."
The driver snorted, "300 dollars? What am I, a street beggar? Do it yourself."
Emily saw him refusing to budge and felt her blood boil. She said,
"3 thousand! Don't get cocky."
The driver lifted his hand, flashing five fingers. He said, "15 thousand, and I'll get it done."
Emily clenched her teeth and said, "Fine, 15 thousand. Happy now?"
The driver, not trusting her to pony up, flashed his QR code and made her pay up front before he'd even lift a finger.
With no other choice, Emily scanned the code and transferred the money.
The driver played it safe, making her add a note that said
"voluntary gift, just in case she tried to call foul later.
Emily was so mad that she could barely see straight.
But truth was, she couldn't be bothered to set up the tent herself-she just wanted to kick back and enjoy, so she grudgingly tacked on the note and sent the money.
With the money settled, the driver lugged the tent over to the lawn and got to work pitching it.
Once Emily saw the driver finally dealing with her tent, she hurried after Lucas, eager to see just who could grab his attention like that.
As she got closer, she realized it was Sophia standing there.
That was it-Emily nearly lost it.
She darted over and clung tightly to Lucas's arm, practically clinging on for dear life, like she was terrified Sophia would steal him away in a heartbeat.
Emily said, "Well, well, Sophia, what a coincidence seeing you here.
Don't tell me you found out we were coming and decided to crash our vacation just to try your luck with Lucas again?"
Sophia rolled her eyes, not bothering to talk to Emily.
Annabelle, sinking back into her freshly set-up chair with a smug look, shot back, "Seriously? Is he supposed to be everyone's dream guy or something?
"You really think we're the ones crashing your vacation? Wow, talk about being full of yourself."
Emily glared at Annabelle-she'd never been able to stand
Annabelle slid smoothly in front of Sophia with a sneer. She snapped, "You what? No one wants you two here, so beat it!"
Lucas sprang up from the ground, brushing the dust off his pants.
He fixed Sophia with a cold stare and said, "Just so you remember —we're not divorced yet."
Sophia's expression grew even colder. She said, "Mr. Westwood, can you not keep repeating the same thing? Seriously, it's getting old."
She wished this cooling-off period would just disappear already— she couldn't stand to be around Lucas for even one more second,
"Just you wait," Lucas warned, throwing the words over his shoulder like a threat.
Then, without another glance, he yanked Emily by the wrist and stormed off, leaving the others gaping.
Annabelle watched them storm off, then groaned, "Ugh, just our luck-those two nutcases show up and crash our chill vacation."
"Forget about them. Let's do our thing and have some fun," Sophia said with a carefree wave, not giving them a second glance.
As Sophia turned around, she spotted Richard stepping out of the tent, his presence instantly catching her attention.
Their gazes locked for a moment, tension lingering in the air.
For some reason, Sophia suddenly felt a bit uneasy, her confidence wavering for no apparent reason.
