Veronica blinked, confused by Gregory's words. She stared at him in shock, wondering if he was saying he had been drugged.
Once it sank in, Veronica furrowed her brows and said firmly, "This has nothing to do with me."
Gregory's face flushed as he glared at her. "Stop pretending! This isn't the first time you've done something like this."
No wonder she had agreed to the divorce so easily—she had been waiting for this moment all along.
He found it almost laughable that she really thought he would fall for it again.
Veronica's expression shifted slightly at his words.
From the very beginning, Gregory had never intended to marry her, even though their families had once arranged a verbal engagement. That one night, he had been drugged, and Veronica had accidentally walked into his room, which led to them being intimate.
By coincidence, the next day, Madilynn, along with Veronica's grandfather and parents, were alerted by an anonymous message and rushed to the hotel room—only to find them in the same bed.
Because of that, Gregory had no choice but to take responsibility, and the Sutton family reluctantly accepted Veronica as a daughter-in-law.
Everyone believed that Veronica had drugged Gregory and then sent word to both families to make them see the two of them in the same bed—all to trap him and marry into the Sutton family.
No matter how much Veronica tried to explain, no one believed her.
Gregory's disgust for her had long since reached its peak.
So now, upon discovering he had been drugged, the first person he suspected was Veronica.
Veronica could only sigh inwardly.
She squared her shoulders and kept her tone calm as she said, "I'll say it again—whether it was five years ago or now, I didn't drug you. Believe it or not, it's your choice."
Gregory didn't reply, only letting out a cold, derisive laugh.
He turned to leave the room, but when he twisted the doorknob, he realized it was locked and wouldn't budge from the inside. He tried again, twisting harder, but all he heard was a sharp "click," and the doorknob came off completely.
Gregory's brows immediately knitted into a tight frown. He knew Madilynn had to be behind this.
He turned to glare at Veronica, his voice icy and menacing. "Even so, I won't let you succeed!"
