Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1032

Under the cover of darkness, the group trudged through the dense underbrush. With every step, they had to slice through the branches in their path, careful not to make too much noise and draw unwanted attention.

They didn't dare take the main roads, fearing they would be spotted.

The hilly terrain was already treacherous to navigate. Everyone carried a stick, occasionally tapping the grass ahead to avoid venomous snake bites.

Callum asked in a hushed voice, "Since we brought so much sedative, shouldn't they all be wiped out in one go? Is there really a need for us to set up an ambush?"

"The sedative is meant for the bulk of their enforcers. Mishka's father won't go down that easily," Owen replied.

"His daughter had several decoys. That old man probably has his own ways of countering the drugs," York added.

It took them two full hours to cover the mere three-mile trek.

By the time they arrived, the battle up ahead had already been raging for half an hour.

Not daring to waste a second, they immediately took up the ambush positions they had mapped out during the day.

But half an hour ticked by, and the surrounding area remained dead silent. The firefight ahead had been going on for nearly an hour now.

"Could they have been wiped out all at once?" York asked.

"Be patient. If my contacts take them all down, they'll send a signal," Hank said.

Another hour passed, and still, there was nothing.

"Did that old man die on the battlefield?" York frowned.

"Unlikely. According to the intel, he was directing things on the front lines yesterday. He relies heavily on those armed forces; he wouldn't trust anyone else to command them."

But two hours dragged by, and there was still no movement from the front.

In fact, word had just come through that the battle was wrapping up and the enemy forces were nearly neutralized.

Shouldn't Mishka's father have made a run for it by now?

Or did he plan on going down in a blaze of glory?

A terrorist and a drug lord wouldn't have that kind of noble resolve, would he?

Worried that something had gone wrong, York considered sending the vanguard soldiers ahead with life detectors to sweep the area.
