Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1260

"Julian, since you're free for the next few days, I need you to go somewhere and find someone for me."

Ethan was completely tied up with the company; taking his eyes off the operations for even a second could result in sabotage.

"Done. Tell me what you need."

Relying on his memories, Ethan wrote down the names and address of Mara's adoptive parents from his past life.

In his previous life, Ethan had personally traveled to that impoverished mountain village to bring Mara back. The names and the location were permanently burned into his mind.

Meanwhile, in a small mountain village not far from Melvion City, Mira opened her eyes.

She found herself lying on a traditional earthen bed. Beside her sat a small, makeshift wooden shelf holding an old-fashioned storage trunk.

The room was cramped, but impeccably clean.

At the foot of the bed sat a simple desk and a stool. Her school bag and a few basic writing supplies were arranged neatly on top.

Against the wall near the desk rested a round mirror with a cheap pink plastic stand, alongside a generic bottle of face lotion, a comb, and a handful of hair ties.

There was absolutely nothing else in the room.

Looking down at the bed, she saw she was covered with a heavy, homemade cotton quilt. Beneath her lay a faded, coarse-woven, checkered bedsheet.

Everything was worn, but meticulously scrubbed.

She lifted her hands. They weren't perfectly smooth, but the skin was tight and youthful—undeniably the hands of a teenage girl.

Had she crossed into another dimension?

Mira clearly remembered her ninetieth birthday. Her children and grandchildren hadn't invited any extended family or friends, opting instead to surround her with just their immediate presence. They had wanted her to enjoy a peaceful, intimate celebration.

Fate was truly generous, granting her yet another chance at life.

But during her teenage years, hadn't she been living in the Mercer family mansion? Why was she here? And where exactly was this place? Had she been kidnapped by those scumbags?

It didn't seem likely. Aside from the glaring poverty, there didn't seem to be anything inherently wrong with this place.

She glanced out the small window. The sky was still pitch black. Mira climbed back into the bed and pulled the covers up. There was no central heating, but the room wasn't uncomfortably cold or hot.

The only explanation was that it had to be spring or autumn.

Mira closed her eyes, trying to piece together the memories of this timeline. Slowly, the fragments locked into place.

In this life, she had grown up in this very mountain village, raised by a humble farming couple.

The entire region was impoverished, but her parents were hardworking. They had no other burdens, and with Mira as their only child, they managed to scrape by with relative comfort...
