Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1268

"Mom, Dad, please don't worry. Biology doesn't mean a thing to me. You saved my life and raised me, and I swear I will take care of you for the rest of your lives.

Nothing will ever sever the bond we have."

Mira fiercely reassured them.

Sarah looked at George and sighed. "We should just tell her. She deserves to know the truth."

It was a testament to their deep, sensible love for her. Mira truly considered herself lucky to have been found by such wonderful people.

It was a tragic shame that in her past life, Mara Mercer had thrown all that love away.

Together, they slowly began to piece together the events of that fateful day.

They had actually been expecting a child of their own. Back then, pregnancy in a rural farming community didn't come with much pampering; most women worked the fields right up until their water broke.

When Sarah was eight months pregnant, she took a terrible fall while gathering feed on the mountain, instantly suffering from excruciating abdominal pain.

George rushed her to the local clinic, but the under-equipped staff panicked at the severity of her condition and refused to admit her.

Completely desperate, George had dropped to his knees, begging the staff until they finally authorized an ambulance transport to Melvion City, over fifty miles away.

The doctors managed to save Sarah's life, but the baby was stillborn. To make matters worse, the trauma to her body meant she would never be able to conceive again.

In a tight-knit, traditional farming community, that diagnosis was a social death sentence.

Without an heir, they would be relentlessly harassed, and their own relatives would eventually swallow up their property. Sarah had been utterly terrified that the tragedy would destroy their marriage altogether.

Heartbroken and utterly numb, they were walking out of the hospital when they suddenly heard the weak, muffled cries of an infant. Following the sound, they found a hospital dumpster.

"What kind of monster throws a breathing newborn in the trash?"

Based on her parents' story, it seemed that in this life, Sebastian Quinn hadn't managed to orchestrate a hospital swap, or perhaps the timeline of his betrayal had shifted.

But whatever the case, she would play the hand she was dealt. Even starting from the bottom in this tiny village, Mira had the ruthless intellect of a corporate titan; building an empire was practically in her blood.

First things first, though: she needed seed capital. Without cash flow, all her grand strategies were useless.

However, generating quick capital in this isolated, impoverished area was going to be a massive headache.

Based on her parents' combined income, a full year of grueling labor barely covered their basic living expenses, leaving zero room for savings.

And they were actually considered the lucky ones. Some of the families in the village routinely went to bed hungry.

Maybe she could buy a lottery ticket? The town definitely had a lotto station, but Mira cursed the fact that she had never paid attention to winning numbers in her past life.
