It was a best-of-five match. Over the next two rounds, both sides rapidly shifted their attack vectors and fortified their digital armor. They each managed to take one round.
But due to Dominic's initial underestimation, the final victory went to Mira.
Leaning back, Dominic finally spoke. “I never imagined someone your age could possess such phenomenal skill. It seems I truly have nothing left to teach you.”
“Not at all. Your techniques are brilliant, Professor West. You just took me too lightly in the first two rounds. If you had gone all out from the very beginning, my odds of winning wouldn't have even been fifty-fifty.”
“A true prodigy. It's rare to see someone with your talent remain so humble.”
“You aren't exactly old yourself, Professor. You're a prodigy in your own right.”
“You really don't yield an inch, do you? Though, I can't shake the feeling that your tactical style is remarkably similar to mine.”
Of course it is, Mira thought dryly. You're the one who taught me everything I know.
Ethan stepped in to answer for his sister. “Great minds just think alike.”
Shifting to business, Dominic asked, “Your Money Market Funds are incredibly successful. From what I can see, your user base is about to surpass the hundred-million mark. Hasn't it only been a few months?”
“It was expected,” Ethan replied smoothly. “The interest rates beat standard bank term deposits, the liquidity is superb, and the risk is practically non-existent.”
“What's your next move?” Dominic asked.
“After the new year, we plan to transition the financial firm into a fully-fledged bank and launch our operations on a global scale.”
“That is no small ambition!”
“Once a person loses their ambition, they can't accomplish anything.”
As they were leaving the building, Mira asked playfully, “Professor West, do I get a bonus gift for winning today?”
“Are you addicted to collecting bonuses? Next time, as the big boss, you should be the one handing them out to me.”
Ethan looked over at his sister, his expression turning serious. “Do you still have feelings for Owen?”
Mira shook her head. “Not anymore. The moment he disrespected Master Ellis with his careless words, any feelings I had evaporated.”
“Exactly. My sister is flawless; you could have any man you want. Who the hell does Owen think he is?”
Ethan paused for a moment before adding, “I think Dominic is a solid choice. In our past life, he never married. That tells me he isn't the type to play games with people's hearts.”
It was true that Dominic wasn't a playboy, and he had indeed stayed single his entire previous life. But as for the exact reason why? Mira herself had no idea.
“Romance relies on timing and fate. I'm still young; I'm not worried about it right now. As for love, if I meet someone who shares my ambitions in the future, then great. If I don't, then I'll happily stay single.”
A year later, during Mira's sophomore year of college, smartphones had rapidly saturated the market, triggering an explosive evolution of the mobile internet.
Deeming the timing absolutely perfect, Ethan and Mira successfully transitioned their firm into Solflare National Bank.
