Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 150

"Keep blowing me off, and I'll stop telling you things too," she grumbled.

Mira knew everyone was entitled to their privacy, but she wasn't about to let him off the hook that easily.

"Whatever," she sighed. "Just remember to make time to help me buy that car."

"I actually have a car for you," he replied. "It's a custom-built Lamborghini, completely one-of-a-kind. It's built like a tank, incredibly safe, and a real head-turner.

"Brand new. Well, it hasn't even been fully assembled yet.

"It's a bit pricey, though. Fifteen million dollars. Do you want it?"

"After a pitch like that, it would be rude of me to say no, wouldn't it?"

Money was meant to be spent, after all. If it was expensive, so be it.

"Where is it?"

"I'm having a friend ship it over. It should take about three to five days."

"Perfect."

Mira spent most of the afternoon at the office, strategizing over the bike-sharing initiative with Owen and the team.

It wasn't until dusk that Owen finally drove her home.

Meanwhile, Mr. Porter had been closely monitoring the fallout from Mara's accident. She was a pawn he had spent considerable time and resources grooming, and she was entirely irreplaceable.

He still needed her for his endgame.

Mara was in desperate need of a blood transfusion. The Mercer family had put out a massive financial bounty, but it had yielded almost nothing.

Shane had stepped in to help locate some, though it wasn't much. He had already funneled the limited supply to them through untraceable back channels.

But it was barely a drop in the bucket.

Later, he found out that Mira was a perfect match. He also heard that the Mercer family had dispatched several teams to grab her, only to fail miserably.

"Idiots," Shane sneered. "They can't even drag in one little girl."

"Boss, Mira has a bodyguard with her," his assistant pointed out.

"And one single bodyguard managed to fend off multiple waves of the Mercer family's men? Please. They probably didn't send anyone competent. Did they think they could just talk her into the back of a van?"

"Sir, Mara requires a massive transfusion, and the blood type is just too rare. Maybe we should cut our losses and abandon her."

She's nothing but a pain in the ass anyway, the assistant thought to himself.

"Abandon her? Absolutely not. She's smart, ruthless, and driven by pure jealousy. Her hostility toward the Mercer family makes her the perfect weapon. There is no better pawn."

Shane paced his office, his mind racing as he calculated his next move.

Suddenly, he stopped and looked at his assistant. "Track Mira's current location."
