Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 161

Norman got Lacey's frantic call for help and simply replied, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but the boss has me on an urgent task right now."

Immediately after, he fired off a text to Shane.

"Lacey and Lucas failed to get Mira."

Shane's personal assistant perked up the second he heard there was news, leaning in eagerly to eavesdrop.

He had been regretting his decision to sneak his son into the hired muscle, practically sick to his stomach with worry.

But the moment he realized the text had nothing to do with that specific incident, he completely deflated.

Shane glanced at his assistant. "Allen, I know you take your job seriously, but there's no need to be so dramatic. You're giving yourself whiplash."

Then, Shane typed out an order to Norman: "Find a way to investigate the situation."

The fourteen elite enforcers he had previously sent to abduct Mira were still missing. Shane was already furious about it, and he refused to let even the slightest clue slip by.

Following orders, Norman threw on a disguise and quietly made his way to the location Lacey had provided, observing from a safe distance.

He sent another text to Shane: "The men Lacey and Lucas brought were entirely wiped out."

This made Shane suspect that the crew he had dispatched the other day met the exact same fate—beaten to a pulp and their bodies disposed of.

But according to his investigation, Mira's car had stopped at that location for less than ten minutes. How could they have possibly had the time?

Burying and disposing of bodies required digging. Unless they had backup.

But that hit had been a spur-of-the-moment decision. How could Mira have prepared reinforcements in advance?

Still, there was no trace of any outside interference.

He texted Norman again. "Find an excuse to visit the hospital and gather intel."

The moment Norman walked into the hospital, he spotted Lacey's tear-streaked face.

"Ma'am, I just finished my work and rushed straight here. What on earth happened?"

"Oh, don't even get me started! This family is falling apart, and my children are completely heartless!" she sobbed.

So, the mother and son had gathered a team of top-tier enforcers.

Their plan was simple: if Mira refused to come to the hospital willingly, they would physically restrain her and draw her blood by force.

As they were getting into the car, Ethan had given them one last warning. "Do you really think Mira is still that helpless little girl you used to push around?"

But Lacey and Lucas completely ignored him. With so many highly trained fighters backing them up, how could they possibly fail to handle one girl?

Yet, it wasn't long before Lacey was sobbing over the phone, begging her eldest son for help.

"Where's Lucas?" Ethan had asked.

"He... he's unconscious! I don't even know what dirty trick that little bitch used!"

As the eldest brother, Ethan had no choice but to show up, though he didn't offer his mother a shred of sympathy.

The moment he arrived at the hospital, he rushed the injured men to the trauma center, personally tracking down specialists for each of them. By the time everything was handled, he walked out of the ward, completely exhausted.
