Around noon, Lucas finally had time to visit Mira’s room. However, he made the same proposal Lacey had made that morning, hoping she would go online and clear Mara’s name.
Mira was instantly repulsed.
She was no longer afraid of offending anyone in her family. Even if Adrian were to propose severing ties right then and there, she would gladly accept. The timing was just a bit rushed; she wasn't fully prepared, which would make things more troublesome, but that was all.
In her past life, when she was at her lowest point, not one of her so-called loving parents or good brothers had spoken up for her. Instead, they all felt that Mira’s life had been too smooth and that a few setbacks would teach her to behave.
That afternoon, Wesley also came to see her, accompanied by his mother. They had visited Lacey and Mara first before coming to her room.
Mira simply gave the mother and son a faint nod.
Wesley’s mother found it strange. In the past, Mira would get incredibly excited to see her, calling out “Mrs. Scott” from a distance. Now that she was here to visit, shouldn’t Mira be grateful? Especially since Mira now had a rival and was no longer the Mercer family’s only daughter; the Scotts could just as easily choose Mara for the marriage alliance.
Wesley’s mother suppressed her annoyance but still said what she came to say.
“My dear, I know you’ve been wronged, but you must get along with your family. A family that stands together, thrives together. Your family is your greatest support. You should listen to their arrangements…”
The woman was an elder, after all, and before Mira turned seventeen, she had been kind to her. As an outsider, she wasn't worth getting into a fight with.
Mira remained silent, listening patiently until the woman finished. She neither agreed nor disagreed.
Then she simply watched as mother and son left, feeling a bit helpless. No one asked them to stay.
As they walked out of the hospital room, Wesley’s mother said to her son, “What’s happened to Mira? How did she become like this? Could the shock have affected her mind?”
Wesley shook his head, looking as if he had a lot to say but couldn’t find the words.
