"Miss, we found the person who paid the produce supplier to poison the food. He has nothing to do with Mr. Porter, though. He was just a random guy hired off the street."
"Lenny, find a way to leak this information to the police."
Even though the man was just a hired hand, he was a crucial lead. With the police's resources, following the money trail would quickly lead them to the true mastermind.
"Got it."
The police had been working around the clock. The news of the poisoning had sparked citywide panic. The higher-ups had issued strict orders to solve the case immediately and bring the culprit to justice. Terrified of buying tainted produce, people were exclusively dining at Solflare Hearth & Grill.
If the police didn't deliver answers soon, the public outcry would be unmanageable.
Meanwhile, Shane Porter was on the verge of throwing up blood from sheer frustration. They had painstakingly orchestrated the trap to deal a lethal blow to the steakhouse, only to have their sabotage uncovered instantly.
Instead of ruining their rival, the scandal had inexplicably driven a massive wave of customers straight to Solflare's doors. People were literally lining up around the block just to buy their safely tested ingredients. They were raking in cash hand over fist!
"Allen, do you think they actually have a way to test for poison, or is it just a bluff?" Shane asked.
If it was fake, exposing them would destroy their credibility forever.
"Boss, it's real," Allen replied grimly. "I had someone dig into their internal operations. Every single ingredient that enters their kitchen is tested."
"But doesn't chemical testing take hours? How could they do it that fast?"
"They use a high-tech device called the VeriScan Probe. It's incredibly accurate."
Shane cursed under his breath. "What about the Lennox family? Have they been dealt with yet?"
