Sebastian Quinn and Seraphina Quinn froze in surprise when they stepped out and saw the elderly woman.
She hadn't mentioned coming outside when they left; she must have grown too impatient to wait.
Eleanor Quinn approached Mira Mercer, pulling a delicate little box from her pocket.
"Child, this is for you. I was originally going to pass it down to your mother, but since she's been such a disappointment, I'm giving it directly to you."
The moment Eleanor laid eyes on her biological granddaughter, her heart melted. She hadn't even been willing to give this treasured heirloom to her other granddaughters.
The antique box clearly held something of immense value.
Mira quickly waved her hands, stepping back. "Mrs. Quinn, I can't accept this. I've completely severed ties with Lacey Quinn Mercer, which means I have no connection to your family either."
"Child, this has nothing to do with her. I only acknowledge you, not her."
Mira was baffled. Why would Eleanor accept her but reject her own daughter, Lacey? Weren't mothers and daughters supposed to be close?
Furthermore, Sebastian had mentioned that when Mara Mercer tried to call Eleanor recently, the older woman had flatly ignored her. Why?
Weren't they both technically her granddaughters?
Could it be that Mara wasn't biologically related? She quickly dismissed the thought. If Mara wasn't blood-related, why did she and Mira share the exact same rare blood type?
Not to mention, they looked strikingly similar.
Seeing the undeniable affection on the older woman's face, Mira felt a pang of sympathy, but she remained firm in her refusal.
"I appreciate your trust and affection, but I truly cannot accept your gift."
She wasn't about to take something so precious from a virtual stranger.
Ultimately, Sebastian and Seraphina had to gently escort the deeply disappointed Eleanor away.
That evening, as Mira and her team left the rehearsal venue, Silas Vane reached out to open the car door. Just as Mira was about to slide in, Owen Lance called out to her.
"Wait. Do a thorough sweep of the vehicles first."
Their respective security teams immediately sprang into action.
