Having studied pharmacology under her mentor for six months, Mira instantly recognized the signs: the elderly woman had just suffered a severe coronary episode.
Unable to bear it, Mira stepped forward and gently took her hand. After all, this woman had never caused her any pain and had only ever shown her kindness.
Eleanor's other hand slowly opened, reaching weakly toward Sebastian, as if signaling for something. Sebastian quickly pulled a small wooden box from his bag and placed it in his mother's palm.
Mira recognized it immediately. It was the heirloom box Eleanor had tried to give her during their first meeting.
With immense effort, Eleanor pushed the box toward Mira. Her eyes were filled with a desperate, pleading look. Yes, she was begging her.
Mira truly wanted nothing to do with this family's deeply entrenched drama, but how could she refuse a dying woman?
"Mira, please take it. I'm begging you," Sebastian said softly.
"Alright." Mira finally accepted the box. A single object didn't dictate her future.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Vanessa Quinn turning her face away in blatant disgust. Whether Vanessa liked it or not was entirely irrelevant to Mira.
"This is a specialized medication for heart failure. Have your doctors check it," Mira said, making a split-second decision. She pulled a single pill from her pocket and handed it to Sebastian.
It was a Vitality Core Tab, an emergency marvel formulated by her mentor. The ingredients were incredibly rare, making the pills nearly impossible to produce. Before she had left for Aethelgard, her mentor had given her a small emergency kit, which included one of these pills.
She didn't know exactly why, but her instinct screamed at her not to let this woman die today.
Sebastian immediately handed it to the attending physician. After a brief absence, the doctor returned and nodded at Sebastian. They had run a rapid chemical analysis and confirmed it was safe to consume, though they couldn't guarantee its efficacy.
"Can she take it right now?" Sebastian asked, looking to Mira.
"Yes."
