Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 364

"You shouldn't judge her like that," Rachel gently scolded Liora. "You girls come from comfortable homes, so you don't feel the pressure. For kids from struggling families, if they stop working for even a second, they can't survive."

Liora quickly realized Rachel was fiercely protective of the working class and decided to drop the subject.

Shortly after dinner, Liora's family car arrived to pick the girls up.

Mira was exhausted from the day's events and decided to shower and hit the bed early. However, it wasn't even eight o'clock yet. Her internal clock refused to let her sleep.

Giving up, she switched on the bedside lamp, grabbed her laptop, and started scanning the stock market for opportunities.

Her phone buzzed. It was Lenny Forbes.

"Lenny, any new intel?"

The general gossip Lenny had gathered was identical to what Liora had shared earlier, but two specific details caught Mira's attention.

"Shane ordered Mara to stay in Ethan's office all day. But Fiona pushed hard for Mara to take afternoon tutoring sessions because her grades are terrible, and the final exams are coming up. Mara didn't dare defy Shane, but she also saw the logic in Fiona's plan. So, they compromised: espionage in the morning, studying in the afternoon."

"Do Shane and Fiona know about each other?" Mira asked.

"From what my guys can tell, they aren't working together. The 'compromise' was entirely internal on Mara's part."

Lenny paused. "Boss, I gotta say, Fiona treats Mara unnaturally well. Almost like a mother."

Mira knew exactly how to manage her people. Loyalty wasn't just about salaries; throwing in generous, tailored bonuses kept morale high and guaranteed dedication.

After hanging up, Mira thought back to her past life. Julian had suffered a catastrophic accident during this exact race. Taking a sharp corner at maximum speed, his car had slammed violently into the barrier, crushing the chassis. He survived, but his legs had been pinned under immense pressure for too long. He was permanently disabled, his racing career instantly vaporized.

Looking at it now, Shane had definitely manipulated Mara into orchestrating the crash. The goal was to completely mentally break Ethan so Shane could sweep the corporate bid.

Narrowing her eyes, Mira dialed Lenny back. "Lenny. Have your people stick to Mara like glue. I want hard evidence of whatever she's about to pull."

"You got it, Boss."
