Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 37

When she returned to her rented apartment that day, Mira continued to day trade Bitcoin.

Today, however, she started with more capital and had honed her skills.

She used two million dollars as her principal and, in just a few trades that afternoon, netted nearly ten million. During a market consolidation, she seized the time to practice her singing.

Feeling satisfied, Mira went to the garden early to complete her evening martial arts practice.

It was still early, she was in a good mood, and she didn’t feel like eating out. With a spring in her step, she headed back to the Mercer estate.

As soon as she walked in the door, she saw Mara nestled against Lacey. The two were smiling, chatting, and eating fruit—a perfect picture of an affectionate mother and daughter.

Hearing footsteps, Lacey looked up and saw Mira enter. The smile on her face vanished instantly.

“You decided to grace us with your presence early today?”

Mira had intended to ignore her and head straight for the stairs to her bedroom, but someone was determined not to let her go so easily.

“Sister, it’s good that you’re back early. A young woman shouldn’t be coming home so late.”

She paused as if she had just remembered something. “Oh, that’s right, you’re coming home late because of work, aren’t you?

Ah! Don’t tell me you’re working as an escort?”

At this, Lacey’s face contorted with fury, as if Mara’s words were fact.

She was about to question Mira, but Mira, who had been walking away, suddenly turned around.

“Has my dear sister gotten so used to being an escort that it’s the first thing on her mind?”

After speaking, Mira looked her up and down, as if seeing her for the first time, sending a chill down Mara’s spine.

Mara was about to retort when she saw Mira’s faint smile.

“Was it at a club or some seedy motel? Why don’t you share the details with me?”

“No, I didn’t! I was just concerned about you, I never thought…”

Before she could finish, Mara burst into tears.

“Why are you crying? Did I hit a nerve? And now you’re going to call me vicious?

But when you were slandering me just now, you had a smile on your face. Who knows how malicious your thoughts were?

What’s wrong? Now that it’s directed at you, you know how it feels?”

But the moment Mara cried, Lacey’s heart ached. She pulled Mara into a hug and began to comfort her.
