Elara nodded. But from that day on, Mira noticed her studying with even greater intensity.
After school that day, Mira received a call from Owen. He updated her on the investigation into the airplane incident.
The official findings revealed that the captain's maid had been bribed to slip the Benzoin Neuro-Sedative into his frequently used sunglasses case.
Sunglasses were a necessity for pilots to block out intense glare.
Normally, pilots were forbidden from using perfumes, primarily to prevent the inhalation of alcohol content that could trigger the breathalyzer tests.
However, the Benzoin Neuro-Sedative contained no alcohol. Tucked safely inside the glasses case, it easily bypassed the pilot's security check.
But once the captain pulled out his sunglasses in the cockpit, the highly volatile sedative immediately vaporized into the enclosed air, slowly plunging both pilots into a comatose state.
The maid had been arrested and was facing severe sentencing for endangering public safety.
Yet, they hadn't managed to extract much useful information from her.
According to the maid, a stranger had approached her while she was grocery shopping. They promised her ten thousand dollars if she slipped an item into the captain's glasses case.
"What is this stuff?" she had asked.
"Don't worry, it's not poison. It won't kill anyone. It'll just make someone take a nap for a bit. The effects evaporate quickly and can't be traced."
The maid claimed she had never seen the substance before and assumed few others had, so she took the gamble.
Her family was desperate for money, and she needed the payout.
Just as the stranger promised, the Benzoin Neuro-Sedative evaporated rapidly after the fact. Initially, the task force found absolutely nothing.
The maid had been secretly relieved. She said that after the incident, she went to the market again, and ten thousand dollars in cash miraculously appeared in her basket.
But the captain was deeply unsettled. He proactively informed the task force about the Benzoin Neuro-Sedative that Mira's group had warned him about before leaving the airport, demanding a thorough investigation.
