Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 393

"He's still in emergency surgery. We won't know his condition until tomorrow," Lenny replied.

Even though he used to be her brother, Mira felt no pity.

The Mercer family had brought a wolf into their home when they welcomed Mara back, and they had all happily enabled her toxicity. Julian had been one of her biggest enablers.

They were reaping what they had sown.

...

Meanwhile, at Porter Entertainment.

"Boss, it's done. Julian is going to be permanently crippled, if not dead," Allen said, bowing slightly as he leaned in toward Shane Porter.

Because they were dealing in dark secrets, these matters were always handled at the corporate office. Shane rarely brought this kind of business home.

"Excellent. That pawn has been feeding at my trough for a long time; it's about time she proved her worth. Next, tell her to focus on Ethan's office. The Mercer family is in total chaos right now. She needs to use this window to steal Ethan's bidding documents."

Allen nodded. "But her godmother doesn't want her hanging around the company too much. She keeps pressuring the girl to study."

"That's not up to her." Shane paused, tapping his fingers on the desk. "Give the girl a generous cash bonus and call it her hazard pay for this job. Tell her that as long as she secures the bidding documents, we won't interrupt her studies until after her college entrance exams."

"Understood."

"And keep a closer eye on Mira. That girl is a freak of nature. Every time we set a trap, she slips right through and takes our people down with her. If we let her keep growing, she's going to become a serious threat."

"Yes, Boss."

Shane shifted his gaze back to his paperwork, but sensing Allen lingering, he looked up again. "Is there something else?"

After the recent incident with Lexie Fontaine, Mira wasn't taking any chances. She insisted on bringing her two bodyguards.

The school's reputation was on the line, so the principal personally led the trip, spending the entire commute lecturing them on test-taking strategies as if he wished he could take the exam for them.

The decathlon was being hosted at a middle school in Melvion City. Students from the Auremont District were instructed to convene at the testing center.

Everyone present had ranked in the top three during the district qualifiers, making up a total pool of just under twenty students.

There were three competitors from the Academy, including Logan Gentry and Zander May. They had been rivals last time, but now they were supposedly comrades fighting for the glory of the Auremont District.

However, the students from the Academy clearly had no intention of saying hello, and Mira's group certainly wasn't going to swallow their pride to make the first move.

Mira didn't recognize the rest of the competitors from the other high schools in the district.
