“Whatever it is, it can’t be that important. Just come home. Your brother Damon is back today, and you siblings haven’t seen each other in a while.” Lacey’s voice was tinged with urgency.
“Yeah, we can talk about the competition. Damon can even give us some pointers,” Mara chimed in, trying to persuade her.
“Not interested.”
With that, Mira got directly into the car.
“Ma’am, they’re family. They have plenty of time to get together. Today, you’ll have to let us borrow Mira,” Liora said with a polite but firm smile.
Then, she followed Mira into the car.
Celine quickly got in after her, shut the door, and the car started moving.
“Mira—!” Lacey shouted.
But Celine’s driver wasn’t about to stop just because she yelled.
“Mira, those two were acting so weird today. Why were they in such a hurry to get you to go back?” Liora couldn’t help but ask.
“You don’t think Mara failed the audition and wants you to give her your spot, do you?” Celine guessed.
How was that possible? Mira clearly remembered that in her past life, Mara had not only passed the auditions but had even placed in the top ten in the finals.
So why were they so desperate to get her home?
Mira didn’t believe their nonsense for a second. The claim about seeing her brother and getting tips on the competition was a lie. They would be thrilled if she failed.
Whatever. The three friends hadn’t gotten together in a while. They would have a good meal and enjoy themselves first.
By the time they finished eating, it was already around five in the evening. Just as Celine was about to take Mira home, Lania called and asked Mira to come over.
Kieran had settled his previous work commitments, and there were things they needed to discuss in person.
Mira had no choice but to head to Arclight Arts Academy first.
Kieran was a bit confused. Mira was the heiress of the Mercer family, and the Mercers had their own entertainment company. They could find any manager they wanted, so why hire him, someone with a tarnished reputation?
“I want to start my own business from scratch, with no connection to the Mercer family,” Mira explained. “To be honest with you both, I’ll probably be cutting ties with them soon.”
Kieran and Lania were aware of the recent scandal involving Mira and Mara that had been all over the news.
Recalling how the Mercer family had handled the situation, they understood.
They settled on a salary: a base of five thousand dollars a month, with bonuses and commissions for good performance.
In 2008, that was a relatively high salary. The factory job he currently had only paid a little over a thousand a month.
