Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 451

"Mira, what is it?"

"Just a heads up. Adrian Mercer and Shane Porter are meeting at the Platinum Roast Café tonight."

With Ethan's sharp mind, he naturally knew what needed to be done.

Within the Mercer family, Ethan's position as the heir apparent gave him the leverage to seize power.

But outside those walls, the situation was precarious.

Adrian was still the chairman. He and Lacey technically owned the Mercer Group. Any shares Ethan possessed had been gifted by them and could be revoked at any time.

In Mavaria, inheritances only took effect after death. Legally speaking, Ethan practically had nothing to his name yet.

If Adrian really wanted to play dirty, he could easily conspire with outsiders to sabotage the company's performance.

That would give him the perfect excuse to rally the other shareholders and oust Ethan.

Given enough financial incentive, those investors wouldn't care about the massive wealth Ethan had brought to the Mercer Group over the years.

And the moment Adrian clawed back control would be the beginning of the end for the company.

Putting aside the fact that Adrian's business acumen was leagues behind Ethan's, would Shane really help him out of the goodness of his heart? Absolutely not.

If Mira's intuition was right, Adrian was negotiating terms with Shane tonight.

Knowing Shane's ruthless nature, he wouldn't even consider helping a longtime enemy like Adrian without demanding at least a third of the Mercer Group's assets.

And that was just the price on the surface.

If Mira was right, Shane would definitely use this 'alliance' as a Trojan horse.

Once Adrian kicked Ethan out, he would inevitably prop Mara up as his successor. After all, Adrian's age and failing health meant he couldn't run things himself for much longer.

That would be the exact moment Shane and his daughter would strike, swallowing the Mercer Group whole while it was at its most vulnerable.

The next day after school, Mira was surprised to find Ethan waiting at her house.

"Mira!"

"I know. It was my fault. I was blind to the truth before."

Mira hadn't wanted to rehash the past, but since they were already on the subject, she figured she might as well lay it all out.

"Being blind to the truth is secondary. The fact that you all enabled Mara and helped her torment me is what I can never forgive.

Based on how things were going, if Mara and I were both in mortal danger, you all would have undoubtedly chosen to save her and left me to die."

"Mira, did you dream about it too?"

"Whether it was real or not doesn't matter. Given the circumstances back then, you all would have fully supported Adrian's decisions.

So, the fact that Mara is turning on you now is exactly what you deserve."

Fortunately, they had wised up just in time to cut their losses, and Ethan had started making his countermoves early. Otherwise, their fate would have been far worse than in her previous life.

"As for me, the second I walked out of the Mercer estate, you ceased to be my family.

And on that front, there will never be any room for reconciliation."
