Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 492

Lacey had once dedicated her entire heart to Adrian, working like a dog for him for half her life, only to be ruthlessly kicked to the curb in the end. The man's conscience had rotted away a long time ago.

“Let me tell you something, Adrian. I have plenty of money. I sold my shares for billions of dollars, and I'm still not giving you a dime. Go to hell.”

“Lacey...”

“Wait, I've suddenly changed my mind. I can help you,” Lacey said, a sharp glint in her eyes as an idea formed.

“Lacey, are you really willing to help me?” Adrian's eyes lit up with desperate hope.

“I am, but on one condition.”

“W-what condition?”

“I want to stand there and watch as you beat Fiona to death, and then chop her into pieces. Do that, and I'll help you.”

“But... but... that's illegal...”

“Then no deal.”

Illegal? Lacey scoffed. When they abandoned a newborn baby, why didn't anyone mention it was illegal? When they bullied and humiliated her, why didn't anyone care about the law? Now he wanted to play the law-abiding citizen.

“Lacey, can we change the condition? I can divorce Fiona. I'll kick her and Mara out onto the streets.”

“I couldn't care less,” Lacey said, and promptly hung up the phone.

Listening to the dial tone, Adrian realized that Lacey was a dead end. He then thought of the next person who might serve as his lifeline: Ethan.

Of all his children, Ethan was the most capable, the best at looking at the big picture, the most family-oriented, and the most devoted. Adrian had once resented Ethan for seizing power within the company, but even then, the control of the Mercer Group had at least remained within the family. Now, things were different. If he wasn't careful, the entire empire would change hands completely.

“I can't hold on much longer on my end. Please, help me. The company will be yours eventually anyway.”

“Mine? Excuse me, Ex-Father, but are you confused? Isn't your chosen heir that little brat, Mara? When did it become me? Weren't you the one who secretly plotted with Shane Porter, pulling strings everywhere to sabotage the company? Weren't you the one who stormed into my office with security to kick me out? Have you forgotten so quickly? We have legally severed our relationship. Whatever happens to you has absolutely nothing to do with me.”

“Ethan, are you really just going to stand by and watch the Mercer Group go bankrupt?”

“What does that have to do with me?”

With that, Ethan ended the call.

Meanwhile, not far from the corporate headquarters, Lacey had finally caught sight of Fiona and Mara as they left work.

“Hold it right there, Fiona. I have a few words to say to you...”
