"Is she really going to play the same trick twice? On Adrian?" Mira asked Lenny, shaking her head. "Unbelievable. Doesn't she have a single original thought in that head of hers?"
"She probably thinks there's no better weapon," Lenny replied. "A small dose makes them compliant. A large dose causes severe illness or sudden cardiac death. With this poison, she essentially holds a person's life in her hands."
"You sound like an expert, Lenny."
"Haha, I learned from observing Mara. She uses it so much, it's hard not to memorize the effects."
"Did Roxanne agree to sell it?" Mira asked, her curiosity piqued.
"She did. You know how stressed Roxanne is with the stock market crashing. She's desperate for someone else to stir up chaos and be just as miserable as she is. But she demanded twenty thousand dollars for a single dose. Mara is scrambling to scrape the money together right now."
"Keep a tight leash on them, especially Roxanne. Track the source of those narcotics and make sure you secure hard evidence. Keep a close eye on Porter Entertainment as well. Any massive capital shifts, any suspicious movements—report them instantly. If you need more men, ask Master Ellis. If you need a larger budget, say the word.
You guys have been working overtime, and once the Porter family is buried, you'll all be heavily rewarded."
"Understood! I'll pass the good news to the boys," Lenny said cheerfully.
After hanging up, Mira immediately dialed Dominic West. "Dominic, can someone serve time for dealing a small amount of narcotics?"
Though Mira didn't know his exact rank, she knew Dominic was a heavyweight in federal law enforcement.
"Any involvement in drug trafficking carries criminal liability, regardless of the amount," Dominic's deep voice resonated. "If it's a repeat offense, dealing over two hundred grams of heroin, or over ten grams of meth or GHB—like your Oblivion Drops—carries a mandatory sentence of at least three years in federal prison."
Honestly, Mara desperately missed the days when that idiot Lacey ran the house. She used to get ten thousand a month in allowance, and if she even hinted at wanting a new designer bag, Lacey would hand over her platinum card.
Now? She had to hustle just to scrap together twenty thousand dollars.
Between her extravagant lifestyle and the hush money she paid for her previous side projects, her savings were completely wiped out.
Realizing she was twelve thousand dollars short, Mara's greedy eyes landed on The Mercer Griffin sitting proudly in the living room.
She knew it was a priceless antique. But it was far too conspicuous. Adrian sat on the sofa every single day, staring right at it.
