Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 540

But this time, they were racing each other to the bottom, bankrupting their empires one after the other.

"Go to hell, you washed-up loser!" Shane snarled over the phone. "I'm not going down with you!"

"Hahaha! It's coming! This is what they call karma. I always knew it would come, I just didn't expect it to hit you this fast!"

"What karma?" Fiona asked groggily.

Adrian had brought Fiona back to the Mercer mansion after she was discharged from the hospital.

Maybe it was to save face, or maybe because she was the only family he had left. Or perhaps he just wanted to watch her suffer from the poison Mara had fed her.

Hearing her voice, Adrian smirked. "Porter Entertainment's karma. Just like yours."

Fiona stayed silent. She knew he had only brought her back to use as a punching bag, but she was trapped.

Mara had originally intended the heavy dose of poison for Adrian, and Fiona had only ended up taking the hit for him. This poison had done irreversible damage.

Fiona's life was saved, but she was bedridden and entirely dependent on others, her mind perfectly sharp while her body failed her. Adrian constantly hurled insults at her, and she didn't dare fight back. If he threw her out, she would die in the streets.

This really was karma. If she hadn't been so greedy, if she hadn't schemed to steal Lacey's husband, she could have had a wonderful life. She had been beautiful, educated, and successful. She could have married any decent man. Why had she been so obsessed with ruining Lacey's life and tying herself to Adrian?

Adrian burst out laughing. "You really think I'm that stupid? If I'm not mistaken, the shares you bought from my company have already been quietly bought up by my daughter and my son."

Adrian emphasized "my daughter and my son" with immense pride. Even though Mira and Ethan despised him and refused to acknowledge him, he loved using their success to humiliate Shane.

"Half of Porter Entertainment! I'll give you half of the company!"

"Do you even own half the company anymore?" Adrian sneered. "From what I hear, my daughter is already wrapping up the acquisition."

"How do you know all this?!"
