"As for the security footage, we'll just wipe the servers before we leave."
But Shane completely missed the faint, mocking smile that touched Adrian's lips.
Wipe the servers?
Every time something catastrophic happened in the Mercer household, no matter how thoroughly the footage was 'deleted,' it always miraculously found its way onto the internet when it mattered most.
After so many incidents, Adrian had long suspected there was a ghost in the machine.
And this time, Shane was going to learn that lesson the hard way.
Ignorant to this, Shane continued his gloating. "Do you know why Roxanne took Fiona? To extract every last Mercer family secret.
And it won't be long before we bail Mara out, too. She's great for spilling secrets and makes an excellent sacrificial pawn.
Adrian, using your own flesh and blood to destroy you... and if everything goes up in flames, your children will be the ones taking the fall.
Isn't that poetic?"
Shane shifted his gaze back to Adrian's face. "Don't fool yourself into thinking that just because my company is facing bankruptcy, your kids are going to get off scot-free.
The game is far from over. I'll have plenty of opportunities to crush them.
Rest easy knowing that after you die, not a single one of your brats will escape. I'm going to ruin them, one by one."
Feeling he had finally said his piece, Shane waved his hand dismissively. "Let's go."
As he turned toward the door, he threw one last glance over his shoulder. "Goodbye, brother. Let's make sure we aren't related in our next lives."
"Brother, I'll be waiting for you in hell. Don't keep me waiting."
Adrian rasped his final retort.
A sudden chill snaked down Shane's spine. "You're asking for it!"
He raised his foot to deliver another brutal kick, but Allen quickly intervened.
"Boss, please! Don't let him die by your hands. The legal blowback will ruin us."
"Since when have I ever been afraid of consequences?"
Unlike Mira, Ethan's feelings were complicated. He resented Adrian deeply, but the man was still his biological father, the one who had groomed him to be the heir.
If Adrian was truly on his deathbed, Ethan felt the urge to let the past grievances rest.
Mira, however, carried the scars of a previous life. For her, forgiveness was entirely off the table.
"Shane... he was just here. Before he left, he wiped the house's security servers..."
Ethan had the call on speaker. Mira didn't miss a beat. "I have cloud backups of everything. I'll send them to you if you need them."
She wanted nothing to do with the Mercer family's drama, but she certainly wasn't going to let Shane Porter get away with this.
Besides, this was the critical juncture of Porter Entertainment's collapse. If Ethan used this footage to press criminal charges, it would be the final, fatal blow.
"Dad, don't worry. Mira backed up everything."
"That's... that's good..."
"Hang on, Dad. I'm on my way."
