Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 62

The two hosts were also confused. There were two contestants with the last name Mercer, they looked very similar, and their performance times were close together.

“I remember the one who got a perfect score was named Mira,” the male host said.

“That’s right. The one with the perfect score was Mira. They performed the Taekwondo dance.”

By then, Mira and Owen had reached them.

“You remember correctly. My name is Mira, and I was the one who performed the Taekwondo dance earlier.”

Natalie, Celine, and the others had also arrived. They were about to speak when Owen cut in.

“You need to correct this immediately. If word gets out that this competition was fixed, your careers will be over.”

Mira’s phone buzzed with a notification. She glanced at the message:

[Let Mara have the spot. The family will compensate you when you get back.]

It was from her brother, Damon.

Mira ignored it and continued to press the hosts to change the ranking.

“Please wait a moment. We need to discuss this with the program director. We’ll get back to you right away.”

The two hosts left. As Mira and her group waited, the audience erupted.

Her classmates were in the crowd, stirring up support.

“What’s going on? Why did the competition stop?”

“I heard they announced the wrong winner.”

“What kind of incompetence is this? How do you mess up the rankings?”

“The two Mercer sisters are competing, and the host mixed them up.”

“That host is so irresponsible.”

“I heard Mr. Mercer is one of the judges, and the family wants the sister they just brought back to win.”

“Did Mr. Mercer rig the results?”

As long as the ranking was corrected, that was what mattered. The competition was the priority, and it wasn’t the right time to cause more trouble.

Unexpectedly, Wesley found his way backstage and whispered to Mira, “Mira, just let Mara have it. You need to think about the bigger picture.”

“You really are the Mercer family’s perfect son-in-law. Get lost!”

On stage, the host was already apologizing.

“Apologies, everyone. We made a mistake earlier with the names of the two Miss Mercers, and we’re sorry for the delay. We sincerely apologize…”

The audience was placated and settled down. Next up was the tie-breaker between Naomi and the girl who had placed seventh.

Life was truly unpredictable. In her past life, Naomi had won first place in the finals, yet now she had almost been eliminated in the second round.

Fortunately, she came out on top and advanced to the third round, the instrumental competition.

Mara, with a final ranking of seventh, was eliminated.

Later, Celine told her that before Mara got in her car to leave, Natalie had chewed her out in front of everyone.
