Mason was currently the head chef at one of their branch locations, pulling in tens of thousands a month between his salary and bonuses. From Rachel's perspective, dating an entry-level waitress was a severe downgrade.
"Don't even get me started. He's absolutely obsessed with that girl. I can barely even look at him right now.
Jenna, the accountant, is wonderful! She's incredibly capable, so thoughtful, but he just has to go and fall for..."
Jenna had been chasing Mason for months. Mira and Rachel had both met her—she had a stellar degree from a top-tier university and was brilliant at her job.
The only problem was that she didn't have Daisy's striking looks, and Mason simply wasn't interested.
Mason didn't have much of an academic background himself, which was exactly why Rachel was so desperate for him to marry someone highly educated. Daisy, unfortunately, hadn't even finished high school.
"It's probably just because she's gorgeous."
"Gorgeous? Can a pretty face pay the mortgage?"
Rachel scoffed, crossing her arms defensively.
"Mark my words, she's going to end up restless and start attracting trouble."
"You can't force love, Rachel. They're the ones who have to build a life together.
They're in the honeymoon phase right now. If you try to rip them apart, Mason is going to resent you. You might end up losing your son entirely."
"You're right. I'm letting my pride get the better of me. Just like your grandmother... Ugh."
"Just let him live his life. It's not worth the stress."
Mira said, offering a comforting smile.
"Fine, I'll take your advice.
I already bought them a house anyway—dropped millions on it. But they can forget about getting another dime from me.
I have my own money. I don't need to rely on him for my retirement.
Stubborn fool won't listen to reason."
"Don't worry, Rachel. I'll take care of you when you retire."
"Sweetheart, you've already done more than enough for me. I'm not going to be a burden on you.
