Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 87

Lacey wanted to be the first to take Mara into her arms. Her darling baby, her heart was breaking.

But Mara, feigning unconsciousness, acted out of character. She ignored her so-called mother’s embrace, pretending not to see her, and clung tightly to Wesley, refusing to let go.

“Don’t leave me, please. I… I’m scared.”

“Don’t be scared, don’t be scared. I’ll stay with you.”

Seeing this, Mr. and Mrs. Scott frowned.

Mr. Scott shot a look at his foolish son. “Wesley, hand her to Julian so he can take her back to her room to get cleaned up and treated.”

Although Mara didn't want to leave Wesley's arms, with everyone's joint effort, she was finally carried back toward the house by her own brother.

“My treasure, how did this happen the moment I took my eyes off you?”

“Mom, sob—”

At this point, Mara could no longer feign confusion and grabbed Lacey’s hand.

Mrs. Mercer touched Mara’s forehead and turned anxiously to Julian. “Hurry up. Get her inside and change her clothes before she catches a cold.

Adrian, call the doctor to come check on Mara.”

“Ma’am, I’ve already called. He’s on his way,” the butler said.

The Mercer family members all followed them into Mara’s bedroom.

Wesley tried to follow, but Mrs. Scott pulled him back.

“We’re guests. We shouldn’t intrude on their privacy.”

Everyone finally relaxed after the doctor confirmed that Mara was fine.

After settling Mara down and telling her to rest, they all left the room.

Back in the living room, Adrian glared at his son. “We’ll settle this with you after our guests leave.”

Lacey looked at Mr. and Mrs. Scott. “Given the circumstances, why don’t we just let the two kids get engaged?”
