Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 98

“Hey, I was just thinking that.”

“I’d be more than happy to have you. We could share a room,” Mira said with a laugh.

“Don’t listen to her rambling. She’s just talking,” Celine said. “She couldn’t handle your lifestyle, and Olivia would never agree anyway.”

“I really envy you guys now, having such wonderful parents and a warm home.”

“But difficult circumstances force you to grow. Adversity has its benefits,” Celine replied.

“Maybe so,” Mira said with a wry smile.

Listening to her friends talk about school starting had sparked an idea in her mind earlier, but it vanished as quickly as it came. That night, as she lay in bed, she tried to recall it.

That’s it! There was a piece of land that would be designated for a high-speed rail station in two months.

Mira remembered this event vividly because the government’s buyout offer was a staggering twenty times the original property value.

She grabbed her phone. [Kieran, clear my schedule for the day after tomorrow. I need your help with something.]

[Understood, Chairman. Do you need anyone else?]

[No, just the two of us. Don’t tell anyone for now.]

When it came to matters involving government policy, the fewer people who knew, the better.

Once this was taken care of, she could focus on school with peace of mind.

The next day, Mira arrived at the martial arts school an hour early. She usually took her healing arts class after her martial arts training, but today she did it first to save time so she could meet her friends at the stables sooner.

During her practice, Owen noticed how fiercely Mira was training and reminded her, “You don’t have to push yourself this hard. Be careful not to get hurt. Leaping five ranks past the green-blue belt to reach blue belt in just over half the summer is already incredibly fast.”

“School is starting soon. Once my academic classes begin, I’ll only be able to come here on weekends.”

“You’re an heiress. Why do you feel the need to practice martial arts?”

“Because I need to. I’m not an heiress anymore, and I’m never going back. From now on, I have to rely on myself.”

For Mira, her martial arts skill could mean the difference between life and death when it mattered most.

“If you’re short on tuition, don’t hesitate to ask. You can also do a work-study here when you have time, just like Oliver.”
