Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 20

Chapter 20

She unlocked her phone and logged into her messages.

In a split second, her screen filled with notifications.

She skimmed through them but didn’t bother to read. Most were from the day her engagernent party was called off, people mocking her or throwing shade. She rolled her eyes. Not worth her time.

She scrolled until she found Cindy’s contact and shot her a quick text.

[Got my phone back. You can reach me here for now.]

After she moved back to Rocktown, she’d gotten a new number and only shared it with Cindy.

Cindy replied almost instantly.

[I heard Travis picked you up himself. Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts?]

Amanda smirked, feeling dramatic.

[My heart’s gone cold.]

There was no way she and Travis would ever get back together.

[Honestly, if Travis could make you stop loving him, he really is something else. But don’t be sad, girl. He’s a total jerk. We don’t need that. I’ll introduce you to some cute younger guys instead.]

Amanda snorted, laughing for real this time.

[Deal.]

Right then, her phone started ringing.

She glanced at the number and raised an eyebrow.

She answered.

A sharp, bitter woman’s voice came through the line.

Amanda, playing games now? If you wanted to disappear quietly, why did you come back at all?

Amanda let out a cold laugh.

Mrs. Hill, with all your connections, I’m sure you heard your own son was the one who brought me back.

Don’t get too full of yourself!Mrs. Hill snapped, then her tone turned icy and demanding. Since you’re back, get over to the house now. I’m hosting guests today. Come help out.

A sly, chilly smile crept onto Amanda’s lips.

Hannah was Travismom, and she’d never liked Amanda. Over the years, she’d found ways to make Amanda’s life miserable, both in public and in private. Whenever there was a gathering at the main house, Hannah made sure Amanda played the part of a servant.

For Travis, Amanda used to play along and try to win Hannah over.

But now that Travis was out of the picture, why would she care what Hannah wanted?

Her smile widened.

Sure. Wait for me. I’ll be there in no time.

Hannah’s voice oozed impatience.

Hurry up!

And then she hung up.

Amanda immediately blocked her number.

Guess you’ll be waiting a long time.

She had zero intention of going. She wanted to see who’d end up embarrassed in the end. From her villa to the house was a fortyminute drive. Hannah waited for an entire hour, but Amanda never showed.

Mrs. Tobias, one of the guests, chuckled. Your daughterinlaw isn’t even officially family and she’s already ignoring you. Maybe she thinks Travis is in charge now and doesn’t have to listen to you.Ms. Lincoln joined in. You’re really too easy on her, Hannah. In families like ours, how could we ever accept someone with no background or status, as a future daughterinlaw?

You’ve treated her so well, and yet she still disrespects you. You really need to set her straight.Hannah was already proud and looked down on Amanda. Now Amanda had left her hanging, making her look bad in front of her highsociety friends.

Fuming, Hannah grabbed her phone and dialed Amanda’s number.

We’re sorry, the number you dialed is unavailable

Mrs. Tobias gasped, hand flying to her mouth.

Hannah, she blocked you!

Hannah’s face was thunderous. Being blocked hurt her pride even more.
