Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 67

Amanda really didn’t want to go over there.

But when her eyes met Travis' calm, steady gaze, she caught a hint of wildness beneath the surface. The memory of last night flashed through her mind, and with a heavy sigh, she walked over, not bothering to hide her reluctance.

She barely had time to think before Travis' strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her right into his lap. His scent was everywhere, warm and overwhelming, like she’d just walked into a trap she had no chance of escaping.

He handed her a sleek photo album.

“Take a look,” he said.

Amanda squirmed a little, but there was no getting out of his hold, so she gave up and flipped through the album. Page after page, she saw gorgeous photos—flowers, decorations, color palettes—but she had no clue what any of it was for. She barely glanced at them before handing the album back, her face giving away nothing.

Travis studied her, searching for any sign of happiness.

“You’re not excited?” he asked.

Amanda frowned. “Why would I be?”

She honestly didn’t get what he wanted from her.

Travis opened the album again and pointed to a page filled with flowers. “Pick something you like.”

Amanda shot him a look. “You want me to pick out the flowers you’re giving me?”

Couldn’t he just choose them himself? It wasn’t like she even wanted flowers from him right now, but if he insisted, she’d just go with it.

But Travis' face suddenly darkened. His features turned sharp, cold. Even his voice was icy.

Back then, she’d been the one asking questions, just like Travis was now. “What do you want? Which flowers? What colors?” And all he’d ever said was, “You decide.”

She’d been hurt, sure, but she always managed to find excuses for him. Travis never cared about that sort of thing, and she’d told herself it didn’t matter. She’d planned everything—every flower, every decoration, every tiny detail—hoping he’d show up and care, just a little.

But then, with just a single sentence, he’d thrown it all away: “The engagement is off.”

Amanda pressed her hand to her chest and shoved the album aside. The fake smile slipped from her face, leaving only raw honesty.

“Travis, I don’t want to get engaged to you.”

Travis froze, his hand halfway in the air. But his face stayed calm. He didn’t yell. He didn’t lose it. He just sat there, silent.
