Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 83

Travis' eyes burned red, his whole body radiating an energy that made the air feel sharp and dangerous.

He snapped at the driver, “Just ram it!”

The driver looked panicked but tried to keep his voice steady. “Sir, we can’t. That’s a loaded semi up ahead. Our Maybach’s no match for it. We’ll be the ones totaled.”

And he was right. Up ahead, the truck was blocking the road completely, massive and unmoving. Smashing into it would destroy their car and possibly kill them all.

The truck driver had already made his move—he yanked the keys from the ignition, jumped out, and hopped onto a motorcycle waiting at the side of the road. In seconds, he disappeared into the night to meet up with his crew.

Travis pulled out his phone, his hands shaking with rage. “Don’t let them out of your sight. Not even for a second.”

“Yes, sir. We’ve got them in view,” came the reply.

That steadied Travis a little. He ended the call and turned to his driver. “Get backup. Now.”

“On it, sir.”

Travis threw open the car door and stepped out. His long strides and sharp movements sliced through the dark, making him look like something out of a nightmare.

David was just getting to his feet when Travis slammed into him with a brutal kick, sending him flying across the pavement. He landed hard by the roadside, gasping for air.

Travis didn’t even hesitate. He grabbed David by the hair and smashed his head against the ground.

She knew she had to save herself. Her weird jinxing ability was gone thanks to Travis, so she couldn’t just mutter a curse and flip the car. If it wasn’t for him, she’d have sent them crashing off the road by now.

At least she wasn’t tied up, except for the pain in her leg. Her dress had a belt, so she quietly slipped it off and waited for her chance. Then, heart pounding, she leaned forward and looped the belt around the driver’s neck, yanking it tight.

He cursed, swerving wildly as he fought for control. The car lurched, then screeched to a stop as he slammed on the brakes.

As soon as the car stopped, Amanda wrapped the belt around the headrest and tied it tight, trapping him. She unlocked the door, tumbled out, and took off into the pitch-black woods without looking back.

The driver struggled with the belt, but she’d knotted it good. After a few frantic seconds, he remembered the knife in his boot. He cut himself free and jumped out to chase after her.

But it was hopeless. The forest ahead was just endless, suffocating darkness, and Amanda was already gone.
