Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 94

No exaggeration at all.

Travis leaned back on the sofa, his handsome face calm and unreadable. He replayed everything in his mind. The moment Amanda jumped, his heart had dropped straight into a bottomless pit. Fear, panic, regret, a whole mess of emotions crashed over him at once.

But none of that mattered. All he could think was one thing: Amanda can’t die.

His body moved before his brain could catch up. He didn’t think about jumping. He just did it.

Mateo watched him and, for the first time, realized he didn’t really know Travis at all. He’d always believed Travis cared more about Leila, that she was the one he truly liked. But just like Travis had said—if it had been Leila who jumped, he wouldn’t have followed. When it was Amanda, he went after her without even thinking.

Mateo couldn’t help himself. “You really don’t have feelings for Leila? Not even a little?”

Travis didn’t even hesitate. “None.”

“Then why are you so nice to her? Why do you spoil her like that? And don’t tell me it’s just because of Jonah.”

Travis looked at him. “What else would it be?”

He wasn’t the emotional type. If Leila was just any other woman, he wouldn’t bother. But Jonah died because of him, and before he passed, he made Travis promise to look after his little sister.

So Travis did. He felt responsible, nothing more. He took care of her when he could. That was it.

But that all changed the night his stomach problems got really bad. It was a holiday, and all the staff had the day off. He collapsed in his study, alone and barely conscious from the pain. If Amanda hadn’t found him, he might not have made it through the night.

She was calm, gentle. She called Marcus, explained what was going on, and did exactly what Marcus told her—found the meds, helped him to the sofa, made him something warm to eat. She took care of everything, step by step.

People need warmth and care when they’re at their lowest. Even someone as tough as Travis.

At least in that moment, he started seeing Amanda differently.

After that, Amanda became obsessed with his health, always making him meals that were easy on his stomach, waiting for him to come home every night.
