Michelle was totally blown away by that remark.
Wait—the head honcho of the Hacker Alliance has it out for me?
When in the world did I ever piss that person off?
She'd never even had any contact with a famous organization like the Hacker Alliance, let alone offended their leader!
"Who's your boss? When did I ever offend him?" she stammered.
The voice on the other end didn't cut her any slack. "Figure it out yourself."
Michelle was completely at a loss.
She wracked her brain. If there was anyone she'd clashed with lately, it was only Margaret, that bumpkin.
Suddenly, a thought popped into her head.
Wait—could Margaret actually be the head honcho of the Hacker Alliance?
As soon as the idea crossed her mind, Michelle dismissed it outright.
She'd have to be crazy to think that!
Margaret was a total fool who'd grown up in the countryside. When she first moved back to Tucker Villa, she could barely even use a computer.
How could she possibly be the leader of a group of computer geniuses like the Hacker Alliance?
She was about to ask for more specific info, but the other side ignored her.
Jose's face turned dark as he threatened, "You Hacker Alliance have got some nerve! Daring to cross the Miller family! Aren't you afraid we'll wipe you out?"
The voice just laughed it off, sounding mocking and provocative. "Haha, that's hilarious! The Miller family's got the goods? You and the entire Miller family—you're just a pack of barking lapdogs in my book."
The laughter echoed through the living room from the phone.
It was full of arrogance and disdain!
Every last member of the Miller family went pale with rage.
They were itching to crush that phone to pieces, track that creep down, and rip him to shreds!
If he'd said that to their faces, the Miller family could definitely make him pay dearly.
But damn it!
Every member of the Hacker Alliance was elusive. Their real locations were impossible to track.
That kind of frustration—itching to clock someone but never being able to lay a finger on them—was enough to drive anyone up the wall.
After a moment of silence, Jose managed to calm himself down. "Spit it out. What's the point of your call?"
He refused to believe they'd only called to mock him. There had to be an ulterior motive.
Thank them?
I genuinely wish every single one of them would just croak!
The smug smirk on Jose's face only grew wider and more obvious. He sneered. "So? How much do you want?"
The voice said modestly, "Not much. Our boss said one billion will do—just a little token of appreciation."
"What?!"
An exclamation of disbelief erupted in the living room!
That guy had some nerve asking for so much!
Once Michelle shook off the shock, she shrieked at the top of her lungs, "A billion bucks?! Why don't you just go hold up a bank already?!"
The voice on the other end was dead calm. "Thing is—we are robbing you right now..."
For a moment, Michelle had no comeback.
Jose finally reacted, his voice firm. "Impossible! We'll never pay you that much money!"
One billion!
Even for a wealthy family like the Millers, that was a huge sum.
It wasn't that they couldn't afford it—it was that this just felt like being a sitting duck, fat and ready to be carved up!
The voice was dripping with sarcasm. "What's wrong? The great Miller family can't even come up with one billion?"
