Trapped in the Don’s Vow (Serena) novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Vincent dropped to his knees and cupped my face. “Stop acting.”

“You know I carry that knife everywhere,” he said. “There’s no poison on it.”

“Serena, we grew up together,” he went on. “You should know I’m not that shallow, and I don’t care whether you have

scars on your face.”

A tear slid down my cheek and dripped onto his hand.

I bared my teeth through the agony. “Vincent Gambini, remember today.”

The pain you’ve given me.” I said. “I’ll pay back twice over.”

Isabella stepped between us. “Serena, instead of thanking Vincent, you’re cursing him?”

“If your face matters that much,” she cried, “then let me ruin mine, too, so you and Vincent can make peace.”

She pretended to reach for the gun, but Vincent knocked it away with a sharp, practiced move.

He hauled her into his arms. “Isabella, why are you so stupid?” he muttered.

“You’re always thinking about her,” he said, glaring at me over Isabella’s shoulder, “and she’s never once thought about

you.”

He gave me a look of pure contempt. “In our world, mistakes get punished.”

Cold spread through my body, and I curled in on myself, shaking. “Vincent, what do you want?

He snapped his fingers.

His men carried in a sleek black coffin, its surface polished until It gleamed.

“I’ve been thinking.” Vincent said calmly. “Since you’re getting buried anyway, I might as well deliver you to the Moretti

family early”

“That way,” he added, ‘it’ll be a lot easier to pull you back out later.”

He ordered his men to put me inside.

“No.” I screamed, “Vincent, you can’t do this. I’ve been poisoned.”

I pounded on the lid like I could break my way out

“Seal it. Vincent said. Use the special wax.”

“At least when the Morettis open it,” he added, “they won’t be scared by her face.”

“Don’t worry,” he said. “Serena’s always been good at holding her breath”

Chapter 4

His men hauled the sealed coffin straight into the heart of Moretti territory and announced that inside was Lorenzo

Moretti’s bride.

Three days later. Vincent arrived at the church with Isabella, expecting a somber funeral.

But inside the church. everything was draped in deep navy velvet.

Vincent muttered under his breath. “What the hell is this?”

A priest beside him cut in. “Mr. Gambini, haven’t you heard?”

Vincent grabbed the priest by the collar. “Heard what?”

Before the priest could answer, the Moretti underboss walked over.

“Make way,” he said coolly. The young Moretti’s bride is arriving.”
